About Us: Acquisition Origination Services is working with a highly ambitious growing UK based private equity business / investment company specialising in acquiring SMEs, to seek a Portfolio or Investment Director to oversee their current and increasing number of portfolio companies. As our client’s portfolio expands, they are seeking a talented and commercially astute Portfolio or Investment Director to oversee and maximise returns across their c.15 existing and future portfolio companies, as well as manage key banking, vendor and management relationships.
The Role: As Portfolio or Investment Director, you will take ownership of a portfolio of c.15 SME businesses, working closely with management teams to develop strategic growth. You will be the primary point of contact for portfolio companies, providing strategic support and monitoring performance against targets. This is a high-impact, visible role with significant responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of investments, overseeing company performance and strategic plans.
- Tracking financial performance, reviewing budgets, forecasts, cashflow, management accounts and monitoring banking covenant compliance.
- Responsibility for managing lender relationships and arranging refinancings where appropriate.
- Prepare service contracts and oversee the execution of LTIP incentive plans for key managers, setting and measuring performance against targets.
- Organise and attend regular board meetings acting as a Non-Executive statutory Director and trusted advisor to portfolio company leadership.
- Ensure robust financial controls and clear growth strategies are in place for each portfolio company.
- Support the recruitment of key management positions within portfolio companies.
- Maintain accurate information for each company, prepare quarterly reports and provide regular briefings for the investment team.
- Identify opportunities (including acquisitions) and risks within portfolio companies, proactively developing strategies to address them.
- Support the management team within each portfolio business with issues relating to Treasury, Accounting, Human Resources, Property, Legal, Health & Safety, Marketing and other commercial matters as required, liaising with third party resources as necessary.
- Liaise with sellers of businesses around payment of Deferred Consideration and Earn-Out payments and Post Completion matters.
- Report to the investment company principal on a regular basis.
- Share knowledge across portfolio business to develop best practices.
Candidate Profile:
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in banking / leveraged finance or private equity.
- Ideally additional experience in private equity, venture capital, transaction services, corporate finance, or turnaround/restructuring environments.
- Track record of financial performance monitoring and banking in a senior debt environment.
- Strong financial and analytical skills, ideally with some form of accounting qualifications.
- Good understanding of legal documentation for leveraged corporate acquisitions.
- Experience working at board level and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Commercially astute.
- A strong understanding of operational best practices and forming value creation plans is highly desired.
Location:
- Work from home, but with regular travel around the UK to attend Board Meetings.
