About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Management Accountant to join our finance team. This role plays a critical part in delivering accurate financial insights, supporting strategic decision-making, and driving business performance.

As a Senior Management Accountant, you will be responsible for preparing monthly management accounts, performing financial analysis, and partnering with key stakeholders across the business. You will ensure the integrity of financial reporting while identifying opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and profitability.

Working closely with senior leadership, you will provide meaningful commentary on financial performance, budgets, and forecasts, helping to guide business strategy. This role also involves mentoring junior team members and contributing to the continuous development of the finance function. 

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant looking to take on a high-impact role within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities will include

• Preparing the monthly Management Accounts for subsidiaries. We currently have subsidiaries based in the UK, USA, Germany, China, Australia, Poland, India, Spain, Korea, Canada and Japan.
• Carrying out month-end tasks such as revenue recognition, cost of sales workings, accruals, prepayments, and maintenance of the fixed asset register.
• Balance Sheet reconciliations
• Bank reconciliations
• Debtor, creditor, and bank revaluations.
• Intercompany reconciliations
• Analyse the financial results to produce commentary for senior management for both internal and external reporting
• Carrying out project work such as improving files, systems, and processes.
• Responsible for VAT/GST Returns including any other Monthly/Quarterly local tax returns and ensure deadlines are always met
• Work with the local accountants/advisors to ensure the subsidiaries’ account balances are aligned with ours
• Responsible for any other applicable returns in the Subsidiaries as and when required
• Assist with the preparation and filing of the Statutory Accounts in the Subsidiary countries in line with IFRS/local GAAP requirements
• Assist with Year-End duties and annual audit
• Other ad hoc duties as and when required by the Financial Controller and Finance Director.

Essential Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience in an accounting environment, with knowledge of IFRS and UK GAAP
• Qualified Accountant
• International Experience
• Good Academics
• Month End Experience including Prepayments, Accruals, Revenue Recognition
• Strong analytical skills, with high attention to detail
• Good Excel skills including Vlookups, Pivot tables and Sumifs
• Able to work to strict deadlines
• Able to work independently and take the initiative in solving problems
• Solid understanding of basic accounting payable principles, including a good knowledge of VAT
• Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
• Ability to communicate and work at all levels with a large number of stakeholders i.e. junior staff to senior management.

Role Summary and Impact

The main purpose of the role is the timely and accurate preparation of the proprietary trading revenue models and monthly management accounts for WPP Media UK revenue, net sales and WPP group (EMEA). This requires strong Excel skills, detailed variance analysis and exceptional reporting. It will also liaise with Finance Plus operational teams on Payables, Receivables and BFC Cartesis reporting. The role will also support key financial objectives that promote driving efficiencies within the team, but also within the business. To be successful in this role, engagement with various parts of the business is required, often at different levels of seniority.

Responsibilities

Month-end process/Year-end & variance analysis

  • Prepare monthly Management Accounts for proprietary trading and coordinate with other WPP Media revenue teams to reconcile total net sales in the TB.
  • Coordinate monthly net sales P&L and media-related Balance Sheet results, with commentary comparing to forecast/budget
  • Work with FP&A and key stakeholders to ensure media revenue and costs models are timely and accurate
  • Prepare and approve journal entries, general ledger recording, balance sheet reconciliations, other month-end reconciliations and schedules for review by the Financial Controller
  • Prepare and reconcile media accruals and deferred income
  • Prepare revenue controls and SOX compliance

Group / WPP reporting

  • Prepare management & external numbers and supporting schedules for reporting in BFC Cartesis
  • Submit commentaries to EMEA on a monthly basis and resolve any reporting queries
  • Prepare and submit quarterly and year-end reporting packages

Other and periodic

  • Ensuring compliance with company policies and SOX requirements
  • Preparation of audit information for SOX, interim and year-end audits
  • Continuously reviewing current processes and making improvements to allow better control or improved efficiencies
  • Dealing with Finance Plus on ad hoc queries
  • Ad hoc projects as directed by the Financial Controller, Senior Financial Controller or Finance Leads

Our client is one of the UK's most respected military charities, with over 140 years of history supporting veterans and service leavers into meaningful civilian careers. A vacancy has arisen for a Management Accountant to join a small, experienced finance team at their London headquarters.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will take ownership of monthly management accounts, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis. You will work closely with directors, operational managers and the fundraising team to monitor funding streams, prepare audit-ready financial statements and support ongoing improvement of finance processes and systems.

This is a hybrid role with a minimum of two days a week at the London office. The position is offered initially on a fixed-term basis with a strong view to permanence for the right candidate.

What we are looking for
Experience counts for a great deal in this role. You may be qualified, part-qualified or actively studying towards ACA, ACCA, CIMA or an equivalent qualification; what matters most is demonstrable experience of management accounting and the confidence to produce accurate accounts to a tight deadline. You will be comfortable presenting clear financial narratives to non-finance colleagues and working with a good degree of autonomy in a values-led environment.

Charity or not-for-profit experience is desirable, as is familiarity with Xero. A working knowledge of VAT and Gift Aid would also be an advantage, though full support and training can be given to the right candidate.

Salary: 40,000 to 50,000 per annum (circa 45,000), plus benefits
Location: City of Westminster, London hybrid (minimum two days per week in the office)
Contract: Fixed term initially, with strong potential for permanency
