Commercial Catering Engineer / COMCAT Engineer - Brighton / South London
 
Basic from £40,000 - £45,000 / 40hr working week / Door to door pay / Overtime / On-call 1 in 4 / Van + Fuel Card
 
We are a successful and fast-growing catering & refrigeration equipment business who offer our clients complete commercial kitchen solutions from installation to service and maintenance.
 
Our main client base includes Restaurants, Pubs, Hotels, Schools, Colleges, Hospitals, Care Homes, and Nursing Homes. You will be responsible for the maintenance & repair of a wide range of commercial catering equipment.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Service, maintenance and repair of commercial catering equipment
  • Fault Finding on both electrical and gas commercial catering equipment
  • Meeting clients - Customer facing position
 
Essential Qualifications / Experience:
  • COMCAT 1,2, 3, 5
  • LPG (Would be an advantage)
  • Relevant electrical experience (18th edition, City and Guilds in electrics would be an advantage)
  • Full Driver's Licence
 
Package:
  • Basic salary from £40,000 - £45,000 (Depending on location & qualifications)
  • 40 hour working week
  • Door to door pay
  • Overtime paid at time and quarter Monday to Friday, time and a half Sunday and double time on Bank holidays
  • 20 days holiday + 8 bank holidays
  • On call 1 in 4 with £120 standby allowance
  • Van + Fuel Card
  • Training and development provided and funded
  • Smart Phone

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced, dependable, and customer‑focused Commercial Catering Engineer to join their expanding team. This is a field‑based role supporting the installation, service, maintenance, and repair of Rational commercial catering equipment across a wide range of customer sites.
Whether you are based in the North West or Shropshire ,this role offers long‑term stability, excellent manufacturer training, and the opportunity to work with a respected and growing business.

The Role
  • Install, commission, service, and maintain Rational commercial catering equipment to manufacturer standards.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs to minimise downtime and ensure safe operation.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to maximise equipment reliability and lifespan.
  • Respond professionally to breakdowns and service call‑outs, prioritising customer needs.
  • Accurately complete job sheets, service reports, and all associated documentation.
  • Ensure all work complies with Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain company vehicle, tools, test equipment, and spare parts stock.
  • Provide clear technical advice to customers and build strong working relationships.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance and recommend solutions.
  • Work independently to manage daily workloads while maintaining high standards of quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in ongoing manufacturer and company training programmes.

Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience servicing, maintaining, and repairing commercial catering equipment.
  • Strong expertise in Rational appliances is highly desirable.
  • Excellent fault‑finding and diagnostic skills across commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Relevant industry qualifications (COMCAT, electrical qualifications, etc.) are desirable.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer‑focused approach.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads, and remain organised under pressure.

Desirable Qualifications
  • COMCAT 1, 3, 5 (or equivalent commercial catering gas qualifications).
  • Gas Safe Registration.
  • Recognised electrical qualifications (e.g., CCEECC or equivalent).
  • Rational training and hands‑on experience with Rational cooking systems.

Personal Attributes
  • Dependable, professional, and punctual.
  • Proactive problem‑solver with strong technical judgement.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing customer needs.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices.
  • Calm and effective under pressure in busy commercial kitchen environments.
