Role Overview:
The Strategic Buyer plays a crucial role in an electrical assembly manufacturing company operating in the defence industry. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, this role is responsible for strategic procurement activities, The Strategic Buyer collaborates with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of high-quality materials and components, while also driving supplier relationship management and strategic sourcing initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Procurement:
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies for machined/fabricated components, PCBAs and other electrical/mechanical componenets, considering quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, conducting assessments and negotiations to establish favourable terms and agreements.
- Collaborate with engineering and design teams to support new product development and technology roadmaps through effective sourcing strategies.

Supplier Relationship Management:

- Work closely with production planning, inventory management, and logistics teams to ensure material availability and optimize supply chain efficiency.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for lead time reduction, inventory optimization, and supply chain risk mitigation.
- Implement and maintain effective systems and processes for demand forecasting, materials planning, and supplier performance tracking.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline procurement processes, enhance operational efficiency, and reduce cycle times.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Strategic Buyer or Purchasing professional in the defence industry, with a focus on PCBs, PCAs, and machined/fabricated components.

- Familiarity with defence industry regulations, standards, and quality requirements.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:

The Role:
Sensor Systems UK is looking for a System Safety Engineer who will be able to affect the safety of the products at Saab, covering their whole life cycle. It is imperative that Saab's products are safe to use and do not cause harm to people, property or the environment. The safety level of Saab's systems and products must meet applicable laws, regulations, international standards and best practices. You will analyse and document identified hazards in order to eliminate the hazard or reduce associated risk for a product. This is performed in close cooperation with different engineering areas including system design, software, mechanics and electrical, all based at our Fareham campus, but supporting activity which is spread across the UK and overseas.
Key Responsibilities :
Identification & managements of risks including the development of risk mitigation strategies, & the identification & analysis of hazards.
Definition of Safety Requirements based on current regulations, analysis & the traceability & verifiability throughout the systems lifecycle.
Safety system & architectural design to meet safety requirements & safety goals.
The development of Safety Validation & Verification plans & procedures.
The preparation of Safety Certification & leading Compliance with regulations.
The development, implementation & maintenance of Safety Monitoring & Maintenance processes.
Lead for Incident Investigation & provision of Root Cause Analysis to develop corrective actions.
Provision of safety systems training & awareness programmes for key stakeholders.
Act as the lead SME on Safety Working Groups for UK MoD contracts
Your Profile:
As a person you are self-motivated and used to efficiently collaborate with team members, as well as other stakeholders. You will have the ability to understand and analyse complex issues and problems. You are structured and like to take responsibility, and be an excellent communicator.
Key Skills and Experience:
Specific knowledge & experience of implementing Civilian & Military Safety Standards (Def Stan 00-55 & 00-56, & ISO 45001:2018), & compliance with regulatory standards (including JSP 815 Defence Safety Management System & JSP 376 Defence Acquisition Safety Policy).
Experience of conducting Systems Safety activities with radar, communications or electronic warfare systems.
Experience of using risk assessments techniques such as Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), & Hazard & Operability Studies (HAZOP).
Experience of safety requirements based on regulatory standards & industry best practices.
Experience of conducting safety testing, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, simulation, & field testing.
Experience of the development & implementation of safety monitoring systems to detect & respond to safety-critical events.
Bachelor or higher degree, ideally in an Engineering-linked topic.
Appreciate working independently & as part of a multi-national team.
Knowledge in safety standards & regulations.
Knowledge of safety engineering principles in hazardous materials, & machine & electrical safety.
Ideally you will hold a relevant safety certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or similar.

The Business Systems Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth integration and optimisation of IT systems to improve overall business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic planning: Collaborate with senior management to identify business goals and objectives, then develop and implement IT strategies to support these goals.
System analysis and design: Analyse business processes and requirements to identify areas for improvement. From this, then design and develop IT systems that address these needs and improve efficiency.
System implementation: Manage the installation, configuration, and testing of IT systems, ensuring that they are fully functional and meet Saab UK's requirements.
System maintenance: Monitor the performance and stability of IT systems, address issues promptly, and implement necessary updates to ensure continued functionality.
Vendor management: Establish and maintain relationships with IT vendors and service providers, negotiate contracts, and manage performance to ensure value for money.
Budget management: Develop and manage IT budgets, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and efficiently to maximize the return on investment.
Training and development: Provide training and support to staff on the use of IT systems, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their tasks efficiently.
Compliance: Ensure that the company's IT systems adhere to relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices.

The Role:
This role will be part of Saab Seaeye our Underwater Robotics Business in Fareham.
The role will be responsible for the production and inspection of PCB assemblies to IPC610 and PCB rework/modifications to IPC7711/7721. In addition, you will also be tasked with reporting all faults found using the correct processes in order to continuously improve production quality.
Key Responsibilities:
To build quality PCB assemblies and rework, in accordance with the relevant IPC standard and the deadlines set out in the production schedule.
To monitor quality of all PCB assembly and rework, in accordance with the relevant IPC standard, by performing inspection throughout different stages of build.
To record and log all inspection failures using company systems and databases.
To check build information is up to date and feedback to Production Engineering or your Supervisor/ Line Manager any changes or additional information required.
To communicate and highlight B.O.M or kitting errors to your Supervisor/ Line Manager.
To monitor evaluate and help improve the efficiency of PCB processes and procedures.
To provide support and ideas in maintaining and implementing lean manufacturing.
To use personal judgement and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to any challenges found in the day to day running of the PCB department.
To maintain personal ability in, and appropriate use of, all relevant IT (Information & Technology) and other systems required to adequately perform the role.
To liaise with Test Technicians on fault finding and identifying root cause problems.
To check build information is up to date and feedback to Production Engineering / Supervisor any changes or additional information required.
Key Skills and Experience:
Proficiency in through-hole soldering
Strong hand-eye coordination and the ability to precisely handle small components are essential.
Familiarity with identifying various electronic components and understanding their functions.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and assembly instructions accurately.
A commitment to high-quality work and precision is paramount in PCB assembly.
The ability to identify and troubleshoot assembly issues or component malfunctions to find effective solutions.

As part of the Electronics team you will create design solutions for electronic/electrical products in underwater vehicles in line with the company's business needs through innovation, creativity and professionalism.
Our systems are complex, requiring a wide range of technology developed, from Power conversion to high speed communication.
You may be required to lead projects, this will require you to direct and co-ordinate project activities within the Engineering Department and other areas of the business such as Purchasing, Operations, Sales and Logistics.
Key accountabilities and responsibilities:
Design and development of new Electronics designs
Comfortable with novel designs with quantified acceptable risks
Experience of full-lifecycle design and development with change management applied: from concept to end of life
Experience in DC to DC converters
Mixed signal electronic design
Microprocessor system design
Board layout principles
Interface buses and protocols including I2C, SPI, RS485, CAN and Ethernet
Design for LVD/EMC Compliance
Development of requirements specifications and test procedures
System level integration and testing
To work with minimal supervision either on your own or within project teams

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with extensive professional experience.
