As an experienced Traffic Management Operative, you will be required to work on Traffic Management Schemes for a range of projects, helping them to run smoothly and efficiently to achieve maximum production in a working day, whilst maintaining a high Health and Safety standard. This role requires flexibility due to the nature of the business. You must be able to work both days and nights, including some weekends as required. You must have a can do and responsible attitude to work.
Key Responsibilities
We are looking for someone to:

- Ensure all work is carried out according to safe working methods and best practice procedures
- Carry out risk assessments and method statements on works involving traffic management
- Ensure that all activities associated with the job are carried out according to laid down procedures where possible. Identify areas that can be improved and report to your line manager
- Ensure that daily vehicle checks are carried out – to ensure cleanliness and tidiness of vehicle and the safety of the driver and passenger
- Promote positive company image whilst at work (via wearing of company clothing, attitude, and site cleanliness)
- Demonstrate initiative by constantly looking to see where improvements can be made
- Assist the public, directing them through safe site lines when required
- Ascertain when management intervention is required
GTM Golden Rules to be followed
- Only undertake Traffic Management activities that you have the qualification to undertake (LANTRA)
- All Traffic Management setups must be compliant with guidance and legislation (Red Book, Chapter 8, ARTSM etc.)
- Regularly check your site to ensure it remains compliant
- Report any unsafe acts and conditions, and rectify immediately if safe and competent to do so
- Drive safely and avoid distractions. Keep within the speed limit and drive with due care and attention to prevent road traffic collisions
- Park vehicles safely, taking consideration of members of the public and other road users
- Five-point PPE to be worn on site at all times
Experience and Qualifications
- Lantra 12d accreditation as a minimum TTMBC, 12d (M1-M2)
- Lantra 12 a/b accreditation, IPV driver, foreman advantageous
- Provide evidence that you understand the differences between Chapter 8 and the Safety at Street Works and Road Works (red book) and how these apply
- Full valid UK driving licence
- Be able to read and understand CAD drawings, in relation to the works required
- Preferable to have mechanical ability in relation to Traffic Lights

Location: Staverton, Devon

The right candidate must be reliable and punctual with a good attitude to work. Further training to progress in the traffic management industry will also be available for the right candidate. This is a permanent role working 40 hours per week Monday - Friday, with opportunities for overtime. You may also be required to work night shifts which will be paid at a higher rate. Weekend work is available but not mandatory.
Responsibilities
- Knowledge and skills to carry out temporary traffic management on motorways and high-speed dual carriageways
- Installing/removing Temporary Traffic Management
- Mobile lane closures on motorways or other dual carriageways
- Load & maintain equipment (temporary traffic signals and road closures etc.)
- Site maintenance (temporary traffic signals and road closures etc.)
- IPV (Impact Protection Vehicle) operation to block vehicles and provide protection for workers and motorists during live road maintenance work desirable.
- Liaise with clients and sub-contractors
- Reporting any incidents, near misses etc.
- Ensure that daily vehicle checks are conducted to ensure the vehicle's appearance and cleanliness are of appropriate standard, as well as the driver and passenger's safety.
Requirements.
- TTMBC, 12D (T/M1 & T/M2) & 12AB as a minimum
- 12C (Operative and/ or IPV Driver) is beneficial but training can be provided for the right candidate who is willing and able to obtain.
- A full valid UK Driving Licence
- Proven working experience in a similar Traffic Maintenance role
- Adaptability and Flexibility
- Pass a drug and alcohol test
- Driven with an enquiring mind and a 'can do' outlook

- Load & maintain equipment (temporary traffic signals and road closures etc.)
- Site maintenance (temporary traffic signals and road closures etc.)
- IPV (Impact Protection Vehicle) operation to block vehicles and provide protection for workers and motorists during live road maintenance work desirable.
- Liaise with clients and sub-contractors
- Reporting any incidents, near misses etc.
- Ensure that daily vehicle checks are conducted to ensure the vehicle's appearance and cleanliness are of appropriate standard, as well as the driver and passenger's safety.
Requirements.
- TTMBC, 12D (T/M1 & T/M2) & 12AB as a minimum
- 12C (Operative and/ or IPV Driver) is beneficial but training can be provided for the right candidate who is willing and able to obtain.
- A full valid UK Driving Licence
- Proven working experience in a similar Traffic Maintenance role
- Adaptability and Flexibility
- Pass a drug and alcohol test
- Driven with an enquiring mind and a 'can do' outlook

What You'll Do
As a Director in the ERM team, you’ll lead global initiatives to assess and manage strategic and emerging risks. Costain have won extensive work across the water sector this year to support the AMP 8 investment cycle. We have been appointed by United Utilities as one of 7 partners to the Enterprise, delivering £5.5bn of projects in the Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) between 2025 - 2030, and AMP 9 (2030 - 2035). Our scope is to provide project management, design, construction and commissioning services on design and build schemes throughout the North West and Cumbria region covered by United Utilities. Projects vary in value, covering both infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets on water and wastewater sites with wider Enterprise partners.
Reporting to the Principal Design Manager you will be responsible for the design delivery of water projects on the United Utilities (UU) AMP8 Framework. Adopting a hybrid working model you will split your time between the Costain Manchester office, UU Warrington offices, design partner offices, UU sites and home as required.
You will have experience working within the water sector, in either Mechanical, Electrical ICA or Civils disciplines in maintenance, design, or capital delivery roles. You should be a motivated team player, with the ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams to deliver production thinking carbon efficient design solutions.
You should also demonstrate a thorough understanding of design delivery, design procurement, design management, design control, quality assurance, BIM to ISO 19650 and have a working knowledge of the NEC4 suite of contracts.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with The Costain Way gates & controls for design commissions within your control
- Control flow of information between parties to ensure relevant information is available to the relevant teams at the right time, including supply chain partners
- Prepare design scopes and agree deliverable requirements in collaboration with relevant teams
- Co-ordination of reporting aligned to the Framework requirements and agreed KPIs
- Management of the allocated design partner and project teams to delivery against agreed design deliverables, programmes & budgets
- Hold and record regular design meetings to actively manage progress and coordination
- Co-ordinate and manage design risk, buildability, carbon and DfMA workshops (amongst others)
- Liaise closely with other members of the team to support package procurement and any respective supply chain partners
- Work closely with commercial team to ensure engagement with supply chain partners to support the design development with timely provision of design information
- Ensuring design compliance with UU, industry and Costain standards; ensuring necessary derogations are secured as required. Challenge design solutions to ensure a safe, efficient and buildable design, considering DfMA and low carbon solutions which meet the Client's affordability challenges
- Coordination and recording of design reviews, technical assurance reviews and CDM reviews
- Ensure design is implemented and managed aligned to the project BIM strategy
- Be conversant with current legislation, especially that which applies to health and safety, which is relevant to tasks being carried out
- Promote the business in a professional manner to both external and internal persons or organisations
- Maintain and grow professional working relationships with the design team, delivery team, commercial team, and employer team and communicate well with them
Qualifications
- Civil engineering qualification and practical delivery experience
- Good organisational skills
- Effective communication and strong stakeholder management skills
- Passionate about improving performance in the sector through best practice, process improvements and continuous improvement practices
- Able to work and learn quickly in a fast paced, fun and dynamic environment.
