About the role
We are looking to expand our team with skilled and enthusiastic individuals to deliver a tunnelling project in the beautiful region of Snowdonia, North Wales. Our work will significantly enhance the visual impact of the area, burying a network of overhead cables and removing a number of pylons to restore and protect the natural beauty, wildlife and environmental heritage of this precious landscape.
The project requires a CAD Technician who will be responsible for producing and/or amending information and graphical 2D drawings in accordance with the client or HOCHTIEF (UK) standard methods, procedures and manuals.
You will manage the drawings and issue electronic and hard copies of drawing and design documentation and manage the design cloud services and CDE for the Project using (ProjectWise/Themis/ACC).
The role will require you to also support the Project team in delivering beneficial outputs from the Information model (i.e. space proofing, clash detection, 3D models, 4D schedules, Quantity take-offs, still images) and prepare drawings and models to demonstrate the viability of the design and construction proposals.
You will also support the Design Manager executing the successful delivery of a BIM Project including 2D & BIM Execution Plans.
About you
It is essential that you have a comprehensive understanding of construction activities and infrastructure project and applied knowledge of BS/PAS/ISO and their processes.
Knowledge of infrastructure design processes is also required within the role.
You must be able to identify, interpret and apply required industry/ client/ internal CAD/BIM standards and complete project delivery using the core 2D/3D CAD applications of AutoCAD with knowledge of Bentley systems.
Please note that this role will be site based at Snowdonia VIP 5 days per week.

CMC are looking for a CAD/CAM Programmer consultant for a leading aerospace client. Our client are undertaking a range of complex manufacturing projects, primarily focused on new product development across aerospace and defence contracts. Due to recent team changes, there is an immediate requirement for an experienced 5 Axis CAD/CAM Programmer to provide critical support and ensure continuity of production while new permanent staff are recruited and trained.
This role is essential to maintain delivery schedules and support ongoing innovation within the CAM function, working on both sensitive defence projects and less commercially sensitive aerospace and robotics structures.
Contract Information
- Contract Length : 12 Month Contract (Inside IR35)
- Hours : 37.5 Hour Week (Onsite with some flexibility possible)
- Location: Isle of Wight
- Budget: Dependant on Experience
Key Responsibilities
- Program and optimise 5 axis gantry machines (head-head and AMC rotation) for the machining of aerospace structures and composite components.
- Generate toolpaths using CATIA V5 and validate using Vericut .
- Support the introduction of new products into manufacturing, ensuring robust and efficient processes.
- Collaborate with the CAM function and wider engineering/manufacturing teams to achieve steady-state improvements.
- Contribute to problem-solving on the shop floor, including on-machine modifications as required.
- Work across multiple contracts with varying complexity and compliance requirements (including defence-related projects).
Core Skills & Experience (Essential)
- Minimum 10 years’ experience as a 5 Axis CAD/CAM Programmer.
- Strong proficiency with CATIA V5 and Vericut .
- Proven background in programming large 5 axis gantry machines (not 3+2 machining centres).
- Ability to work independently with minimal training and deliver immediate value.
- Strong communication skills and ability to integrate effectively into an established team.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Aerospace industry background, particularly on structural components.
- Composite machining experience.
- Exposure to robotics machining.
- Automotive experience with CATIA V5 (transferable skills will be considered).
