Bank Pharmacy Technician - Chelmsford Job Introduction

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Bank  Pharmacy Technician to join our healthcare team within the HMP Chelmsford prison. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of pharmaceutical services in a secure and structured environment. You will play a key role in supporting the prison healthcare team, managing medication administration, and ensuring the effective delivery of pharmaceutical services.

Main Responsibility
  • The post holder will work as an effective member of the Pharmacy team in providing healthcare services, including medication administration to the patients.
  • They will assist in the delivery of a high quality pharmacy service, providing medicines management services to assist in tackling identified inequalities within the prison.
  • The post holder will also provide pharmacy related information to patients, prison officers and other healthcare professionals, ensuring that the level of advice given is appropriate to need.
  • The role requires autonomous function and within the scope of competency, whilst being a support and resource to less experienced members of staff.
  • Assist with the implementation and development of pharmacy support to all the residential wings in the prison which includes, where appropriate, advising patients on the correct use of medication.
  • Maintain clear and comprehensive, signed and contemporaneous records both written and electronic.
  • Recognise signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol withdrawal and support patients with substance misuse problems, support patients who are distressed and could be at risk of harming themselves or others or could be at risk of suicide
  • Communicate effectively with other team members, prison staff and external agencies both verbally and written
  • Undertake all mandatory and additional training as identified
  • Use and encourage others to be familiar with the security systems within the prison
  • Undertake all duties as required of a Pharmaceutical Professional in HMP Chelmsford and to comply with the competencies, knowledge and skills framework of the Department of Health
The Ideal Candidate
  • Qualified with an NVQ Level 3, BTEC or equivalent
  • Registered Pharmacist Technician with current General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) membership
  • All candidates are subject to prison vetting checks
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi professional team within a fast-paced environment

HMP Chelmsford are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatrist to join our healthcare team. As a Psychiatrist within the prison service, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality mental health care to individuals in a challenging yet rewarding environment. You will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing the mental health needs of prisoners, many of whom may have complex and severe mental health conditions.

Main Responsibility
  • Medical Assessment and Clinical Care: Conduct medical assessments and provide excellent clinical care, assessment, and treatment to patients on the caseload onsite.
  • Case Formulation: Formulate complex cases involving both medical and psychiatric needs.
  • Strategic Participation and Leadership: Actively participate in shaping the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead senior mental health clinicians in service development, and provide clinical supervision.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) Collaboration: Work within the MDT to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in complex case reviews.
  • MDT Meetings: Attend clinical MDT meetings and participate in discussions regarding high-risk patients.
  • Treatment Setting Discussions: Engage in multidisciplinary discussions to determine the most appropriate treatment settings for patients.
  • Guideline Implementation: Implement clinical guidelines and best practices.
  • Prescribing and Medication Management: Prescribe medications beyond the usual psychiatric formulary and appropriately monitor medications in line with NICE guidelines.
  • Service Values Promotion: Promote key service values including evidence-based treatment, collaborative teamwork, coordinated care, and efficient risk management.
  • Clinical Performance Oversight: Collaborate with clinical and operational colleagues to oversee and improve the team's clinical performance.
  • Service Development: Work closely with clinical and managerial leaders to improve and develop mental health services.

The Ideal Candidate

Personal Specification 

  • Registered professional with current registration (GMC)
  • Specialist Registration in either General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry
  • Approved under section 12 (2) of the MHS 1983
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
  • Up to date knowledge in the adult psychiatry and PD
  • Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy, and legislation

The Role

  • Keep machines running at all times.
  • When unloading pallet press and transferring work to the warehouse liaise with warehouse Team Leader to prioritise the work that they require first.
  • Check incoming board for damage and shape and inform supervisor if load is unsafe.
  • Check incoming board for FSC compliance (following the Non-compliance procedure as necessary)
  • FLTs are given 2 hours to unload a trailer whilst keeping machines running.
  • Checking pallet labels match current job when getting work out for the machines
  • Cleaning and maintaining machinery (FLT and baler when working out the back).
  • Demonstrating flexibility in operating a variety of roles proficiently (rotating duties)
  • Ensure accurate records are maintained throughout production process.
  • Minimise downtime by forward planning to ensure all materials are available well in advance
  • To help utilise allocated labour to the best effect in order to achieve identified priorities.
  • Work with your Supervisor on process/continuous improvement projects
  • Adhere to Site Health & Safely, Quality and Hygiene requirements
