Overview:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Structural Analysis Engineer to join a world-class Formula 1 engineering team. This role is ideal for someone with a deep technical skillset, a sharp analytical mind, and a passion for high-performance engineering. You'll work on the structural assessment and optimisation of intricate mechanical and composite structures that play a key role in on-track performance.
Working as part of a fast-paced, collaborative design group, you'll apply advanced engineering principles and practical insight to deliver robust, efficient solutions under tight deadlines and evolving technical demands.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of Composite and Mechanical Stress, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivery of optimum race-car parts and assemblies in collaboration with Design Engineers.
- The structural analysis of car and test rig components/assemblies to the required standards making use of both finite element and hand calculations.
- Close collaboration and teamwork with other engineering departments to achieve car performance and reliability goals and objectives.
- Maintaining accurate documentation through the design process in the form of reports including FE results and supporting calculations.
- Supporting the components and assemblies assigned to you through the various stages of life, from inception and design through lab testing and in-service life.
- Supporting the race team during occasional race weekends and track-test events.
What You'll Bring:
- An engineering degree (2:1 minimum grade) with experience in a high-performance engineering industry.
- A knowledge of Motorsport Engineering would be advantageous.
- Thorough understanding of finite element and hand calculation methods.
- Knowledge in fatigue, non-linear material behaviour and contact analysis would be preferable.
- Good demonstrable experience in FEA tools such as Hyperworks and Abaqus with FE-Safe a plus.
- Knowledge in composite materials and FE modelling using software such as Laminate Tools.
- Experience with optimisation tools, Tosca and Optiassist would be highly beneficial.
- Communication and collaboration skills needed to thrive in our exceptional, diverse, no-blame environment.
- An ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and confidently with all members of the organisation.
- Experience of 3DX design is of benefit as well as proficiency in Excel.

What will I be doing?
As a Senior Analysis Engineer, the purpose of your role will be to perform static, fatigue and FEA analysis tasks for the development of efficient landing gear systems for aircraft to meet demanding customer requirements.
Duties will include;
Classical static stress and fatigue analysis.
Interfacing with other areas of the business where necessary: Chief Engineers, Programmes, Test Engineering, Manufacturing, etc.
Participate in audit reviews and present information as and when requested.
Liaise with external suppliers, customers, airframers, regulatory bodies and other industrial organisations as required.
Review Drawings, designs, concessions and repairs, communicate professionally & effectively with both internal & external customers and suppliers.
**Job Requirements**
What do I need to succeed in the role?
Minimum of HNC/HND level, but ideally BSc/MSc, in an engineering discipline
Good working knowledge of aerospace design & manufacturing processes
Experience of working with recognised FEA and fatigue software tools
Experience of static and fatigue structural analysis methods
Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings
Experience of working to regulatory requirements
Landing Gear experience would be advantageous.

Role
Integrating a novel propulsion system within existing aircraft designs is an important opportunity in decarbonising aviation. To meet this challenge, ZeroAvia require an ambitious and capable Mechanical Structural Analysis Engineer to help deliver effective solutions for modifying and re-certifying aircraft.
The successful candidate will predominantly work on integrating ZeroAvia’s propulsion system onto airframe primary structures including understanding and mitigating against the impact the modifications have on the original aircraft type certificate. The candidate may also be involved in the structural verification of the powertrain and power generation system itself along with rig design.

To meet this challenge, ZeroAvia require an ambitious and capable Mechanical Structural Analysis Engineer to help deliver effective solutions for modifying and re-certifying aircraft.
Job responsibilities will involve assessing and resolving the structural integrity of critical aircraft equipment including ZeroAvia’s bespoke fuel cell balance-of-plant solutions. The candidate may also be involved in structural analysis of aircraft structures along with rig design and therefore a curious mindset is essential for this role.

Main responsibilities
- Perform structural simulations and verification of powertrain equipment including test correlation.
- Apply knowledge of materials (metallics and composites), finishes, welding, and other manufacturing processes to best meet product requirements.
- Participate in design reviews.
- Work closely with engineers, manufacturing and testing personnel to ensure that all aspects of the design are understood.
- Serve as liaison with testing department for equipment qualification.
- Provide expertise to review subcontractor design deliverables of critical aircraft equipment.
Experience and qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in an appropriate discipline and commensurate depth of related technical experience.
Essential Requirements
- High level of expertise in FE model creation and FE analysis.
- Expert in one or more types of analyses: linear-static analysis, dynamic analysis, non-linear analysis.
- Experience in ‘hand calculation’ analytical sizing analysis using industry standard methods.
- Vibration and shock testing experience
- Understanding of metallurgy, material models and failure modes.
- Verification experience of computational/analytical models.
- Comfortable working from first principles.
- Good knowledge of design for manufacture and assembly
- Working knowledge of Nx or Solidworks.
- Tool and methodology development experience.
- Excellent level of spoken and written English (additional languages a plus).
- Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as good written and oral communication skills.
