Job Description
RIBA Part II Architectural Assistant – BB Partnership
Location: London (near Holloway Road Tube Station)
Employment: Full-time, office-based
About BB Partnership
BB Partnership is a residential architecture practice drawn to ambitious, complex projects that challenge our technical and creative sides.
Our work spans multi-unit housing, co-living, student accommodation, hotels, and one-off homes, often involving heritage buildings and sensitive sites. With over 30 years of experience, we’ve built a reputation for delivering high-quality, sustainable projects that stand the test of time.
The varied scale of projects we work on also includes smaller apartment refurbishments, awkward infill sites and refurbishment projects, all with relatively short time spans that offer opportunities for rapid experience across all stages of a project that are suitable for and Part III case studies that may not be always available in larger practices.
We offer a paid learning agreement for Part 3 and students benefit from mentoring, helping them with their case study and practical skills and knowledge needed for a future in architecture.
BB Partnership is an employee-owned business. The practice has a 50/50 gender split, no gender pay gap and two-thirds of our directors are women.
“I worked at BB Partnership for over 10 years joining soon after completion of my Architecture postgraduate (part II) studies. At BB Partnership, I found the opportunity to have ownership over projects surrounded by experienced and technically gifted architects. The ability to take control of all aspects of a project from client management to consultant coordination; planning through technical design and contract administration made my transition from aspiring architect to fully qualified architect seem-less. They supported my development; solidified my architectural interest and facilitated the progression of my career.” – Thomas McCaughan
The Role
We are looking for a RIBA Part II Architectural Assistant to join our friendly North London studio. This is an ideal opportunity to gain hands-on, practical experience and develop a deep understanding of architecture by working on live projects alongside supportive colleagues.
You’ll gain exposure to every stage of the process, from initial concepts and planning applications through to technical detailing and seeing designs built on site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of drawings, reports, and presentations for active projects.
- Contribute ideas and research to design development and problem-solving.
- Support the preparation of planning applications and liaise with local planning authorities under supervision.
- Collaborate with external consultants, such as engineers, surveyors, and contractors.
- Participate in team design reviews, client meetings, and site visits.
- Maintain organised and accurate project files to support efficient workflows.
Skills & Requirements
- Completed RIBA Part II qualification.
- Previous experience working in a Chartered RIBA Practice.
- A portfolio that demonstrates creative thinking and design process.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Graphic and presentation skills using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
- Clear written and spoken English with good communication skills.
- Organised, proactive, and eager to learn and develop within a collaborative environment.
Why Work with Us?
At BB Partnership, we don’t just design buildings, we design careers. Our supportive studio culture provides exposure to all aspects of architecture.
“I had the most formative years of my career while working at BB Partnership. I left university and worked in a small practice for a year which I decided wasn’t for me, and then found an opportunity at BB Partnership. I started with a March (arch) but at the time didn’t realise I had very little working knowledge.
The practice had a wide circle of clients, build over decades which brought in a wide variety of exciting projects and gave me opportunities which enabled me to complete my part 3.
I was lucky enough to work there for 5 years and are still in contact with directors and colleagues now. I was given so many opportunities, not only to develop as an architect but also work on such great projects and be privileged to work in such a great team. ”– James Coad
You’ll gain:
- Experience on diverse, meaningful projects, from heritage refurbishments to contemporary co-living schemes.
- Mentoring and guidance from experienced, approachable architects.
- Opportunities to visit construction sites, seeing how design becomes reality.
- A chance to work in a friendly, employee-owned practice.
- A convenient location near Holloway Road Tube Station.
How to Apply
We’d like to get to know you personally.
Please send a short video clip (no longer than 2 minutes) telling us:
- Why you’re interested in this role
- What excites you about the built environment
- A little about yourself and your aspirations
Email your video to:
What Happens Next
If your application is successful, we’ll invite you to a follow-up interview via Microsoft Teams. This will be a chance for us to get to know you better, discuss your experience in more detail, and answer any questions you may have about the role or working at BB Partnership. We aim to make the process as welcoming and informative as possible.
