Role Overview: Steel CAD Designer
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Steel CAD Designer for our head office branch in Colney Heath. As a Steel CAD Designer, you will be responsible for creating detailed and bespoke CAD drawings and models for steel and architectural structures and contributing significantly to our innovative projects.
You will be part of a team involved in developing unique designs that range from complex steel extension work to ornate one of a kind conceptual metal work jobs.
You will be using high quality computer assisted design/drafting software to create, amend and finalise layout drawings including bespoke and associated construction drawings.
The role requires developing structural engineers detail by creating 3D GA's using Autodesk Advance Steel.
Working hours for this position -
Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm / 1 in 3 Saturdays 8am to 12.00pm.
- Salary £0,000 - 5,000, dependent on experience.
Key Responsibilities of the Steel CAD Designer
- li>Developing detailed CAD designs and models for steel structures, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
- Collaborating with the engineering and architectural teams to interpret design briefs and convert them into technical drawings.
- Reviewing and adjusting design plans based on feedback and project requirements.
- Maintaining and managing a comprehensive library of design documents and templates.
- Ensuring all designs adhere to health and safety regulations and industry standards.
- Assisting in project planning and scheduling by providing design inputs and updates.
- Fabrication detail for production
- Procurement of material
- Pricing of design projects
- Plasma cutting setting
Qualifications and Experience
- Proficient in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar.
- We welcome graduates, school/college leavers, or junior Design Engineers to apply for this role as training will be provided - but you must have some background in Design Engineering.
- Autodesk Advanced Steel 3D Design package.
- AutoCAD or similar 3D package essential.
- Demonstrated experience in designing steel structures, preferably within the construction or manufacturing sectors.
- Developing 3D CAD models for Steels fabrication for commercial/residential extensions and new build housing.
- Strong knowledge of steel fabrication processes and construction methodologies.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently as required.
- Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with team members and stakeholders.
- Customer focused attitude with a willingness to learn and progress in this role
Strong attention to detail and accuracy - IT literacy

To act as Mechanical Designer and Project Engineer for various projects, ensuring workable mechanical designs are produced in 3D and 2D CAD (using Autodesk Inventor) designers for a range of anaerobic digestion related projects. The role will involve close coordination with both the process engineer and site installation teams to ensure a fully integrated design is produced.
To provide initial conceptual arrangement drawings for proposals and develop into 3D models and 2D general arrangement drawings.
To provide mechanical design input to ensure that the design outputs are achieved on time, meet the design requirements, and achieve an acceptable level of quality.
To ensure that the design is fully integrated and coordinated with both the process engineer, civil designer and electrical engineer.
To become involved during the site installation to ensure that good engineering practice is adhered to, on-going technical queries are dealt with in a timely fashion and both good and bad experiences are fed back into future designs to ensure that we learnt from our experiences.
- To read and review relevant specifications and to incorporate feedback to ensure that the mechanical design incorporates all requirements.
- li>Identify potential technical improvements and cost savings for the work packages.
- Where appropriate to act as project engineer in managing and coordinating work packages and associated deliverables, including design, procurement, site liaison.
- To provide mechanical design support/ throughout the project (i.e. feasibility, outline design, detailed design, construction and commissioning).
- To develop best value, robust designs solutions which can withstand external challenge. < i>To understand and communicate the mechanical design risk and assumptions associated with the project and support the Design team in managing this risk. To record the risks and assumptions as the project progresses. li>To offer technical guidance and governance for design review meetings and assessments to ensure that risks and hazards are designed out or minimised to an acceptable level.
- To share best practice and good / bad experiences with other designers and relevant staff.
- To provide technical guidance during the installation phase of project construction to ensure that mechanically it is installed safely and in line with requirements.

- To record both good and bad experiences involved in the project and to ensure that this knowledge is shared with the design team and other relevant Biogen representatives.

We are working with a well-established engineering solutions provider specialising in process equipment, turnkey installations, and bespoke machinery manufacture. Due to continued growth, they are now looking for an CAD Technician to join their expanding project engineering team.
This role offers the opportunity to be involved across the full project lifecycle, from initial design concepts through to construction, commissioning, and delivery of large-scale industrial installations.
The Role:
As an Engineering CAD Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the engineering team by producing accurate and detailed 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor. Your work will directly contribute to the design, development, and manufacture of proprietary machinery and process equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and modify engineering drawings and 3D models in AutoCAD and Inventor
- Assist in producing process flow diagrams, schematic drawings, and general arrangements
- Support the preparation of sub-assembly, manufacturing, and fabrication drawings
- Carry out site visits and surveys with the project team to capture requirements and site constraints
- Maintain accurate project documentation and technical records
- Assist with supplier quotations, schedules, and tender preparation
