Responsibilities:
- Supervise and direct the activities of aviation security staff, providing guidance and support to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to procedures.
- Monitor security checkpoints, access control points, and other sensitive areas to detect and prevent unauthorized access or breaches.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of security equipment and personnel to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Develop and implement security training programs for new and existing staff, ensuring they are up-to-date with the latest security measures and protocols.
- Investigate security incidents, including theft, vandalism, and breaches of protocol, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
- Liaise with airport authorities, law enforcement agencies, and airline representatives to coordinate security efforts and respond to emergencies.
- Manage the scheduling and deployment of security personnel to ensure adequate coverage across all operational areas.
- Prepare regular reports on security performance, incident summaries, and recommendations for improvement.
- Maintain a visible and approachable presence, fostering a culture of security awareness and cooperation among all airport stakeholders.
- Ensure the correct use and maintenance of security technology, including CCTV, X-ray scanners, and metal detectors.
- Previous experience in aviation security, law enforcement, or a related field is essential.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or team leadership role.
- A thorough understanding of aviation security legislation and best practices (e.g., CAA regulations).
- Excellent observational skills and the ability to identify potential security risks.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, particularly under pressure.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams.
- Proficiency in using security technology and surveillance systems.
- A valid SIA Security License or the ability to obtain one.
- Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, as required by airport operations.
- A clean criminal record and the ability to pass stringent background checks.

Job Description
A small number of vacancies have arisen within the Security Section for the post of Security Officer.
The hours of work are an average of 37 hours per week, based on an annualised hours shift rota covering 24/7, 365 days per year.
An allowance for shift and weekend working is added to the basic pay scale.
Duties include mobile patrols of council establishments, responding to intruder / fire / panic alarm activations, keyholding duties, open / close council establishments for contractors etc., courier duties for all council departments, static duties at St Helens Crematorium and Newton Cemetery. Initial contact and response for any major emergency plan activation on behalf of the council.
Ensuring client service level agreements are adhered to in relation to Security Industry standards.
As part of this role, you will be expected to cover the Security Co-ordinator position when required to by management. This is considered an essential responsibility. An uplift payment will be provided for the duration of this cover. For full details of the duties involved, please refer to the Security Co-ordinator job description.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Must have a flexible approach to working hours / shifts
Category B Driving Licence is essential.
Knowledge of alarm systems would be an advantage.

- Ability to remain calm and handle stressful situations
- Attention to detail and a high level of observation
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions
