As part of the team, you would provide highly specialist psychological assessment including neuropsychological and functional assessment, clinical formulations, therapeutic interventions drawing on multiple theoretical models, wider service support to prevent and reduce the incidence and impact of psychosocial/mental health difficulties. As well as direct work with people with learning disabilities, their families and service providers, you would provide consultation, at both an operational and strategic level, as well as clinical supervision and training for colleagues and trainees.

Main Responsibility

•    Work as an autonomous practitioner within the Community Heart Failure Team, being responsible 

for the provision of non-invasive cardiac investigations, predominantly echocardiography, resting 

•    ECGs and ambulatory monitoring, to the population of North and West Wiltshire

•    Work in various community health centre settings, providing high quality, patient-centred care with 

responsibility for clinical imaging standards

•    Perform domiciliary cardiac investigations, usually echocardiography, on housebound patients as 

required

•    Provide clinical supervision, audit and training of other cardiac physiologists within the Service.

In addition to the clinical workload, the post-holder will:

•    Collaborate with other members of the Community Heart Failure and Cardiac Diagnostic Teams

to provide specialised advice, training, mentoring, supervision, and assessment in the field of non-invasive cardiac investigations relevant to the service.

Essential

•    B.Sc. In Clinical Science or Clinical 

•    Physiology or HTEC Medical Physics &

Extensive post-qualification clinical experience in echocardiography and ECG

•    BSE Accreditation

•    RCCP registration

•    Immediate Life Support Certification

•    Extensive post qualification experience in echocardiography and ECG

•    Fully competent in echocardiography procedures, analysis and both technical and 

clinical reporting

•    Extensive knowledge of cardiac physiological investigations

•    Specialist knowledge of echocardiography techniques

•    Substantial experience of teaching, assessing, supervising and/or managing staff /trainees

Band 8a Clinical Psychologist - Learning Disabilities & Autism - Swindon Job Introduction

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join our specialist psychology team embedded within the community team for people with learning disabilities. 

We work closely with psychiatry, and the wider multi-disciplinary community team. Working in a learning disability service means that you will draw on expertise from a range of theoretical orientations and interventions. Referrals are varied in nature and include: cognitive assessments; trauma work; neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric conditions (including autism spectrum disorders); dementia and neuro degenerative conditions; comorbid mental health difficulties including risk of harm to self or others. We will actively support you to develop any specialist interests you have in any of these domains.

 As part of the team, you would provide highly specialist psychological assessment including neuropsychological and functional assessment, clinical formulations, therapeutic interventions drawing on multiple theoretical models, wider service support to prevent and reduce the incidence and impact of psychosocial/mental health difficulties. As well as direct work with people with learning disabilities, their families and service providers, you would provide consultation, at both an operational and strategic level, as well as clinical supervision and training for colleagues and trainees. 

The importance of support and supervision for psychology staff is prioritised. There are opportunities for joint working and being part of a wider network for psychologists through various forums. You will be supported by a friendly and innovative team who meet regularly.

Recent experience working in a Learning Disabilities service within the last 5 years and confidence working with individuals with learning disabilities is essential.

Primarily based in Swindon with some travel across the BSW patch required making willingness to travel and a full UK driving license and access to a vehicle is essential.

Main Responsibility

In the role of a Clinical Psychologist the main responsibilities are: 

A. Clinical

  • Previous experience working within Learning Disability service in a community setting.

  • Support the delivery of a high-quality clinical psychology service.

  • Carry out in-depth assessments, including neuropsychological and risk assessments, and evaluate suitability for specialist therapies, involving carers when appropriate.

  • Use psychological formulations to collaboratively understand client difficulties and guide treatment planning.

  • Provide a variety of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, and groups, adapting approaches as needed and drawing on multiple models.

  • Deliver at least one evidence-based specialist intervention aligned with service needs.

  • Offer expert consultation to team members and beyond, supporting psychological understanding and care planning.

  • Apply advanced psychological knowledge to enhance the team's work with clients, carers, and systems.

  • Contribute to training initiatives within the organization.

  • Engage in clinical supervision and maintain accurate, up-to-date records and data reporting.

B. Management

  • Support day-to-day operational tasks and provide supervision to junior staff.

  • Represent the service in specialist forums as needed.

  • Help coordinate smaller projects when requested.

C. Professional

  • Follow HCPC and BPS professional standards and ethical guidelines.

  • Engage with relevant policies and contribute to their development when appropriate.

  • Take part in local and organizational meetings, ongoing professional development, and collaborative learning with peers.

  • Participate in annual appraisals and regular clinical supervision.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent), HCPC registered, and eligible for Chartered Psychologist status.

  • Skilled in psychological assessment, evidence-based interventions, and risk management, particularly within learning disabilities and mental health services.

  • Experienced in multidisciplinary collaboration, consultation, clinical supervision, and delivering training to a range of professionals.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act) and systemic/organisational thinking.

  • Excellent communication, liaison, and administration skills, with the ability to work flexibly both independently and within a team.

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and knowledge of the UK health sector and understanding of health care provisions along with strong English language and communication skills

  • Demonstrates empathy, resilience, and emotional awareness, especially when supporting individuals with complex needs or challenging behaviours.

  • Maintains professionalism and sensitivity under pressure, even in potentially high-risk or emotionally demanding situations.

  • Advanced ability to engage clients with severe interpersonal difficulties and to sustain focus and mental effort over extended periods

Desirable:

  • Supervision Training 
  • Post qualification and further specialist training in specified specialist intervention.
  • Relevant R&D or clinical audit work post qualification 
  • Clinical supervision of clinical psychology trainees.
