Job Purpose
The Hospital Director will provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for an acute mental health hospital and will ensure safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care, regulatory compliance and the overall performance of the facility in alignment with the organisation’s mission, vision, and values.
Essential Skills / Experience
- Master’s degree or higher in Mental Health, Psychology, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or related field.
- Significant leadership experience in acute mental health or psychiatric settings.
- Knowledge of mental health law, safeguarding, crisis intervention, and clinical governance.
- Strong understanding of budget management, risk assessment, and performance improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement long-term strategies for growth, clinical excellence, and patient care improvement.
- Align hospital objectives with national mental health care priorities and regulations.
- Lead and contribute to innovation in service delivery, crisis care models, and trauma-informed practices.
Clinical & Operational Oversight
- Ensure delivery of effective, evidence-based treatment for acute mental health conditions.
- Monitor and improve performance metrics (e.g., occupancy, readmission rates, safety incidents).
- Oversee 24/7 operations including inpatient units, psychiatric emergency services, and transitional services.
Staff Leadership and Development
- Lead a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, therapists, and administrative staff.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous professional development.
- Drive recruitment, retention, and staff well-being strategies.
Financial & Resource Management
- Develop and manage budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and cost-effective service delivery.
- Monitor expenditures, secure funding where applicable, and lead contract negotiations.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and regulatory standards (e.g., CQC, CMS, Joint Commission).
- Oversee internal audits, risk assessments, and incident reporting.
- Lead preparation for accreditation reviews and inspections.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent the hospital to external stakeholders including government agencies, partner providers, and the community.
- Foster partnerships with local healthcare providers, police, crisis teams, and advocacy organizations.
- Act as a media spokesperson when necessary.
