The Principal Engineer - Building Services Engineering will:
- Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services, including HVAC (inc. clean/dry rooms), hot and cold water, steam, foul drainage, compressed air, and BMS systems.
- Carry out site surveys and inspections, ensuring accurate assessment of existing conditions and project requirements.
- Produce design calculations, technical specifications, reports, and drawings using both manual and software-based methods.
- Manage and coordinate project teams, allocating workloads across engineers, graduates, and support staff.
- Oversee project commercial aspects including budgeting, income tracking, and cost management.
- Represent the company in client meetings, maintain strong relationships, and identify opportunities for future work.
The Principal Engineer - Building Services Engineering will have:
- Engineering Degree - Mechanical/Electrical/Buildings. Chartered or on way to Charter-ship.
- Minimum 10 years in Building Services Engineering - Mechanical or Electrical (Must be UK-Based design experience)
- Demonstrable experience in running customer projects through to completion either at a consultancy or contractor.
- Experience managing technical team.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to operate independently and within multidisciplinary teams across various office locations.
- High attention to detail, self-motivated, and eager to contribute to innovative projects across a broad range of industry sectors.

As a Senior Building Systems Consultant, you’ll be a crucial part of our built environment consultancy activities. You’ll work on diverse projects, including:
• Conducting component and equipment condition assessments.
• Leading failure investigations and providing expert technical advice to building/facility owners, insurers, and loss adjustors.
• Preparing detailed technical reports based on lab investigations and in-house engineering analysis.
• Reviewing technical documentation and standards associated with building systems.
• Engaging with clients through presentations and meetings to drive project success.
Your role will invol e some UK and international travel to client sites, where you’ll assess equipment and provide on-the-spot insights.
We are looking for candidates with:
• A degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent on-the-job experience. A higher degree (PhD or equivalent) is a plus.
• Deep expertise in one or more building systems:
o Air handling/ventilation systems
o Electrical systems including cabling, power systems, lighting, UPS, switchgear
o BMS/SCADA
o Water systems including fire systems, heating systems, chillers, pumps, and pipework
• Experience in equipment failure investigations and knowledge of operational, maintenance, and commissioning activities.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• A reasonable level of physical fitness for site visits.
• A full UK driving licence is preferred.
