What you'll be doing;

  • Identifying, listing and collecting hazardous chemical wastes from customer sites, ensuring that it is packaged and segregated suitably for transportation and is compliant with all relevant regulations and Company policies.
  • Handling and becoming an expert in wastes varying from highly complex laboratory smalls, to generic garage & engineering wastes and everything in between.
  • Maintaining your company vehicle and the equipment carried to meet company standards

This Process Safety Engineer position is working with a globally leading chemical manufacturer based in the Wigan area who specialise in the manufacture of bespoke resins. Responsibilities of the Process Safety Engineer :

* You will chair and participate in formal assessments such as HAZID, HAZOP, and SIL target setting studies, generate study reports and manage subsequent actions, alongside leading HAZID and SIL studies.

* Responsible for Hazardous area classification following industry codes and guidance and develop and implement functional HSE management plans.
* In charge of producing and reviewing specifications, data sheets, schedules, study reports, and design calculations; ensuring that they conform to quality, competence, and project management systems.
* You will provide technical support to projects and sites as required whilst adhering to and complying with relevant discipline specific procedures, and providing feedback for continuous improvement.
* The Process Safety Engineer will ensure self-awareness of relevant regulatory framework, legislative changes, initiatives and industry technology developments.
* You will hold thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals environmental methodologies, software systems, and design practices as they relate to FEED, Detail Design, Construction, Commissioning, and plant Start- up, whilst holding an awareness of international codes and standards.


To be successful in this position as Process Safety Engineer , you will:

* Be degree qualified in a relevant Eng. / Chemical Discipline.
* Holding a chartered status would be highly beneficial.

Undertake survey and assessments of existing process/equipment (asset surveys); site visits to complete if required.
Feasibility and Optioneering Studies for wastewater treatment processes.
Undertake the role of technical secretary or scribe in HAZOP meetings with clients and develop an interest in this area (e.g., HAZOP, FMEA etc.).
Communicate effectively with clients and key stakeholders.
Ensure all technical documents and data are prepared and structured in accordance with relevant design standards and legislation, and AECOM QA standards.
Ensure the proposed design satisfies all operational and safety requirements and client technical standards.
Check and verify engineering documents in line with the appropriate technical and quality plans.
Providing documentation and drawing deliverables on time to meet project deadlines.
Assisting with the checking the work of other junior staff; knowledge of AECOM technical QA procedures.
Able to provide process commissioning support to site teams, if appropriate.

**Qualifications**

**Requirements:**

Experience in design and build projects would be advantageous although not essential

Job Description

Development Chemist require based in West Yorkshire on a permanent contract. Requiring a degree in Chemistry (or similar), with recent, proven industrial experience of formulating new and existing products is desired. A range of sectors can be considered, with experience of developing lubricants, oils & greases desirable.

Salary: £26,000 - £40,000 (dependent on experience)

Term: Permanent


SRG are working with a global, market leading specialist developer and manufacturer of a range of industrial chemicals including fluids, lubricants, oils and other speciality products. They are now seeking a Development Chemist to join their multifunctional team in West Yorkshire to support in developing both new and existing products within the portfolio. The role will also involve testing products, supporting in analysis and scale-up activities and supporting in process improvements. This role will suit candidates who have experience in developing and formulating new and existing products with the industrial chemicals space, with recent lubricant, grease or oil development experience desirable. Recent Chemistry graduates who have knowledge or who have completed in research project in relevant fields are also encouraged to apply.

Role/Description

  • Support in the formulation and development of both new and existing products
  • Testing new formulations
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation and procurement records for new products
  • Support with analysis and developing new analytical methods
  • Assist in scale-up activities of new and existing formulations
  • Support other departments as necessary


Requirements

  • Degree in Chemistry (or similar)

You will be responsible for leading complex process development projects, ensuring the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of chemical reaction engineering, separation processes, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer. Your responsibilities will include developing process simulations, designing new equipment, improving existing processes, and conducting hazard analyses (HAZOP). You will also play a crucial role in mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the strategic direction of process engineering within the company. The ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including R&D, operations, and safety departments, is essential. Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of chemical processes.
  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).

  • Perform scale-up studies for new chemical processes and products.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex process issues in manufacturing.
  • Ensure all processes comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Lead process hazard analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP studies.
  • Collaborate with R&D, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure seamless process integration.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment to improve process efficiency and sustainability.
  • Mentor and guide junior process engineers.
  • Develop and manage process engineering project documentation.
  • Contribute to the technical strategy and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in process engineering within the chemical industry.
  • Expertise in process design, simulation, and optimization.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and separation processes.
  • Experience with process safety management (PSM) and hazard analysis.
  • Proficiency with chemical process simulation software.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities.
  • Effective communication and reporting skills.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is highly desirable.
