Job Description Summary:
As a Senior Digital Engineer, you will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams designing, developing, and verifying high reliability digital electronics for use in a wide array of applications. These applications include processor/FPGA boards, low power electronics, and advanced packaging techniques. As a senior member of the Harsh Environments Electronics Group, you will help shape digital hardware architectures and lead electronics development activities by applying sound engineering and project management principles.The Tailored Systems Business Area within Electronics Program Office directorate delivers first-of-a-kind field-ready microelectronics solutions in support of National Security missions.

Job Description:
Duties/Responsibilities
* Translate project and system requirements into well-defined hardware architectures working with cross-functional teams.
* Design and/or complete instruments including microprocessors, power, and analog components.
* Innovatively solve issues, drive completion of the project to schedule, and collaboratively work with other technical contributors.
* Build and test prototypes, debug, and prepare documentation for manufacturing, and support.
* Research and enable innovative solutions for cutting-edge designs.
* Engage other engineers and partners to develop reliable, cost effective and solutions for products.
* Drive solutions to complex problems with limited direction - contribute to requirements development, propose ways forward, and adapt appropriately to changes in requirements.
* Independently performs complex electronic architectures and designs.
* Able to provide insight and suggest design modifications based on simulation results.
* Identify program/system-level technical risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies.
* Ability to manage a task with multiple engineers and effectively communicate status to project leadership and customers.
* Actively mentor less experienced engineers and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills/Abilities
* Proficiency in electronic design, microprocessor or embedded computing.
* Understanding of design and general computer architecture.
* Ability to write detailed design specifications.
* Computer programming and coding abilities.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education

Experience

Additional Job Description:
Required Qualifications:
* Schematic capture and board layout experience.
* Experience integrating and debugging embedded systems.
* Ability to perform circuit simulation using HyperLynx and ANSYS.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in Mentor Graphics PCB design flow.
* Experience with Xilinx or Microchip FPGA/SOC design flow.
Location:
The ability to be in Draper facilities as needed is required.
Current in scope Top Secret government security clearance is required.

We’re looking for an experienced PCB Design Engineer to join a high-profile engineering project developing advanced power feeding equipment that supports undersea cable systems. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on complex, multi-layer PCB designs within a collaborative and forward-thinking engineering environment.
This role is suited to someone with proven experience in PCB design (rather than someone seeking their first step into this area). We welcome applications from all backgrounds and are committed to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where every team member can thrive.
What you’ll be doing:
- Turning circuit schematics into detailed PCB layouts using Altium Designer (essential) and/or Zuken CR5000 (desirable – training provided if needed).
- Designing multi-layer, high-speed and power PCBs , optimised for signal integrity, thermal management, and power distribution.
- Producing Gerber files, BOMs, and fabrication drawings for manufacturing.
- Ensuring compliance with IPC, IEEE, and DFM/DFT guidelines.
- Partnering closely with hardware engineers, mechanical teams and manufacturers to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions.
- Leading design reviews, troubleshooting, and prototype validation.
- Keeping pace with new tools, trends, and standards in PCB design.
What we’re looking for:
- Solid PCB design experience in Altium Designer (non-negotiable) ; Zuken experience a bonus.
- Proven ability to deliver complex, multi-layer PCB designs (high-speed, power electronics).
- Knowledge of signal integrity, power distribution, and thermal considerations.
- Understanding of manufacturability and testability (DFx) best practices.
- Familiarity with IEC-62368-1 safety standards (creepage/clearance).
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Electronics / Electrical Engineering.
