In this key role, you'll help design and develop Configuration Management services and tools that support some of the UK's most vital digital platforms.

As part of the Configuration Management Team, you'll play a central role in managing and evolving our Configuration Management Database (CMDB)-ensuring it provides accurate, reliable data. You will be part of the team who own, manage, and set the direction for Configuration Management and CMDB utilisation.

This is an incredibly important time for the Configuration Management team, supporting the strategic high-level digital programme of activity to ensure we have all relevant data in CMDB to underpin stakeholder requirement.

You'll work on both day-to-day operations and long-term improvements, contributing to the delivery of our Configuration Management roadmap and supporting the ongoing needs of digital products and services across DWP.

    Overview

    This role sits within the Configuration and Data Management team and is responsible for ensuring adherence to internal guidelines and industry best practices across Configuration Management processes. Acting as the first line of support and training for Product Lifecycle Management and Configuration Management Database users, you'll work closely with project, product, and service teams. You will oversee and support CM activities, provide internal and external stakeholder guidance, contribute to process improvements, and maintain system compliance in a highly regulated environment.



    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform CM activities: identification, control, planning, change, status accounting, and audit.

    • Maintain and distribute controlled documentation and data in the CMDB.

    • Generate reports for team leads, project managers, or product/service teams.

    • Act as the CADM focal point for one or more assigned projects, with support from team members.

    • Ensure CMDB/PLM systems are maintained in a suitable operational state.

    • Handle document control, quality checks, internal and external distribution, and structure creation within the CMDB.

    • Respond to and support CADM-related queries from project stakeholders.

    • Drive and support continuous improvement initiatives within the CADM function.

    • Coordinate the creation and management of configuration structures such as BOMs and Product Trees.

    • Manage Configuration Control Boards including initiation, assessment, facilitation, agendas, and reporting.

    • Develop and improve CM processes and support system tool enhancements.

    • Create and maintain Configuration and Data Management Plans, and Change Management Plans for specific projects.

    • Monitor workload and resource allocation for assigned projects.

    • Liaise with customers to ensure configuration requirements are met without negative impact on cost or schedule.



    Essential Skills and Experience

    • Strong knowledge of Configuration Management principles: identification, structure, change, baseline, status accounting, and audits.

    • Experienced with PLM/PDM tools

    • Proficiency in MS Office and file/data management software.

    • Good understanding of the product lifecycle.

    • Experience in setting up CM processes on new projects.

    • High level of digital literacy and attention to detail.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

    • Eligibility to work with ITAR-controlled data.



    Desirable Skills

    • CMII or equivalent Configuration Management certification.

    • Experience working with customer stakeholders in a liaison role.

    • Familiarity with APQP and related standards.

    • Understanding of sensitive data environments.

    • Knowledge of European languages.

    • You will correspond with your nominated counterparts in the customer and suppliers, recording external documentation into the CMDB and sending internal documentation to external stakeholders.
    • You support all CM activities facing external stakeholder, providing evidence and supporting any related request.
    • You ensure CM compliance by contributing to project level activities with internal and external stakeholders.

    Your skillset may include:

    • Digitally Literate and proficient with MS Office Tools
    • Previous experience with file/data management tools (MS Office, PDF editor, FTP, Nero, etc.)
    • Full Configuration Management knowledge (Configuration Identification, Configuration Structures (Assembly / Product, Baseline Management, Change Management, Status Accounting, Auditing)
    • Previous experience with Product Data Management tools (Windchill, Teamcenter, Aras Minerva, etc.)
    • Understanding of project/product lifecycle
    • Exposure to APQP
    • CMII
    • Experience setting up Configuration processes
    • Experience of working with Customers in a CM Liaison role

    Lead Configuration Management on some of the most advanced defence projects in the UK.
    We're seeking a seasoned Configuration professional who can take ownership of CM processes from concept through to delivery. You'll influence at senior levels, guide project teams, and ensure governance excellence on cutting-edge programmes that make a real-world impact.

    What You'll Be Doing

    • Setting the strategic direction for Configuration Management across allocated programmes.

    • Managing full lifecycle CM - identification, change control, status accounting, and audits.

    • Building strong relationships with engineering, quality, and programme teams.

    • Driving process improvement and operational efficiency.

    • Coaching and mentoring colleagues to build CM capability across the business.

    What You'll Bring

    • Significant Configuration Management experience with strong process knowledge.

    • Familiarity with national/international CM standards (Def Stan 05-57, ISO10007, EN9100 desirable).

    • Ability to navigate complex engineering environments and influence senior stakeholders.

    • A track record of leading CM activities in defence, aerospace, or similarly regulated sectors.
