Location: Leeds (LS15), Perivale (UB6) OR Coalville (LE67) (with hybrid working after completion of training - Once per month required at one of the sites)

As the first dedicated in-house Legal Counsel you will provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice that enables innovative healthcare, e-commerce and data projects to succeed while protecting the business from undue risk. Working closely with senior stakeholders and supported by a paralegal, you will:
- Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements
- Manage legal risk across the group's operations, including NHS and private services, veterinary medicines and consumer e-commerce
- Shape our contracting playbook, policies and governance processes as the company scales
- Act as a trusted business partner who removes blockers, finds solutions and champions a culture of compliance and ethical practice

What you'll be doing?
- Commercial contracts - draft, review and negotiate agreements covering supply, distribution, SaaS, IP licensing, data sharing, IT procurement, marketing, and strategic partnerships
- Contract lifecycle management - maintain template suites, approval checklists and the contract repository; drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Legal risk management - identify, assess and mitigate risk across new ventures, product launches and day-to-day operations; escalate material issues to the Head of Legal and executive sponsors
- Regulatory support - advise on healthcare, pharmacy and veterinary-medicines regulation (with specialist external counsel where needed); collaborate with the Data Protection team on privacy clauses and DPIAs
- Corporate and governance - support company-secretarial tasks, subsidiary management, fundraising activities and M&A due diligence
- Training and education - deliver succinct, accessible sessions for non-lawyers on contracting best practice, competition law, advertising rules and other relevant topics
- External counsel management - instruct, scope and supervise specialist lawyers, ensuring cost-effective, high-quality advice
- Team collaboration - coach the paralegal, share knowledge generously and contribute to a supportive, high-performing legal function
- Law degree (or equivalent) and current practising certificate
- Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) with c. 4-8 PQE, including recent in-house or secondment experience
- Proven track record in commercial contracts, ideally within technology, e-commerce or healthcare
- Hands-on involvement in contract lifecycle management and template development
- Experience advising on legal risk in a fast-moving, high-growth environment
- Desirable: familiarity with NHS or wider healthcare regulation, veterinary-medicines rules, marketing & advertisement, AI/ML projects or consumer-law compliance
- Sound understanding of contract law, data protection principles and corporate governance basics
- Commitment to continuous professional development
