THE COMPANY:
I'm working with a global retail & e-commerce brand that's expanding rapidly across the UK. With a growing digital and physical presence, their central data team plays a key role in powering insights across e-commerce, retail, finance, and marketing.
THE ROLE:
This is a hands-on data engineering role where you'll focus on building, optimising, and scaling pipelines into BigQuery (GCP) from a wide range of sources. You'll work closely with BI developers and analysts to ensure clean, reliable data is available for reporting and decision-making.
- Manage and optimise pipelines from ERP, website, APIs, app stores, social media, and more.
- Work with BigQuery, Google Buckets, Python scripts, and Talend (transitioning to Dataform/Cloud workflows).
- Support migrations between GCP projects and ensure the warehouse is scalable and cost-efficient.
- Partner with BI teams to prepare and transform data for reporting in Power BI and Looker.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
A successful Data Engineer will have the following skills and experience:
- Strong hands-on experience with BigQuery & GCP (essential).
- Solid SQL skills, with a focus on optimisation and performance tuning.
- Experience working with APIs and data pipelines.
- Python for automation and bespoke data jobs.
- Knowledge of BI tools (Power BI / Looker) - good to have for connecting and enabling reporting.

The Standards Verifier plays a key role in maintaining the integrity and consistency of vocational qualifications by ensuring that assessment and internal verification practices meet national standards. **Role Specific Services and Expectations**

Stay up to date with relevant qualification specifications and, where applicable, National Occupational Standards.
Provide expert advice, guidance, and support tailored to your subject area and in line with verification requirements.
Attend and complete all mandatory training and annual standardisation activities within required timelines.
Conduct centre visits as required for qualifications involving visiting verification, following guidance from the Assessment team and subject to approval.
Adhere to Pearson's quality assurance processes and follow prescribed sampling strategies for allocated qualifications.
Review learner work and internal verification records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Ensure assessment decisions are valid, consistent, and aligned with national standards.
Provide constructive feedback and support to centres during the sampling process.
Produce comprehensive and actionable sampling reports for each centre visited.
Clearly communicate when standards are not met and outline the necessary corrective actions.
Assist centres in addressing issues, implementing improvements, and maintaining ongoing compliance.
Identify and recommend suitable learner work or assessment materials for use in future training and standardisation events.
Maintain regular communication with your Pearson supervisor and work collaboratively with internal teams.

**Experience:**

**Purpose of this Role**
Affirm national standards have been achieved and upheld
Monitor through external examiner sampling and visit activities, centres' compliance with Pearson quality assurance expectations for RQF BTEC Higher National programmes
Support centres during the sampling process
Support centres in the delivery of BTEC Higher National programmes to national standards.
**Key Accountabilities**
Covering a defined range of programmes within a sector, the External Examiner (EE) will:
Undertake sampling of assessed student work within defined parameters and rules to establish that centres are assessing learning outcomes in accordance with Pearson standards for its Higher National qualifications
Provide sampling-related support and development to centres
Produce reports for centres and Pearson on the sampling undertaken, outcomes reached, and support provided
Apply appropriate sanctions in consultation with the team leader where it is deemed assessment outcomes are not consistent with the published national standards being met
Produce targeted actions for centres to assist with remedial actions where national standards are not being upheld
Support centres to understand and implement identified actions
Facilitate the Senior External Examiner (SEE) in sourcing materials for training and standardisation
Report back to Pearson and centres following EE activity within agreed service-level agreements
Undertake any other duties appropriate to the work of Technical and Professional Assessment in relation to this role
**Previous Experience:** **Essential:**
Significant experience in delivering and assessing BTEC Higher National qualifications in the subject area
Hold a qualification at least at Level 6 and a full and relevant competence qualification for working in the sector
Participation annually in online training and standardisation and successful completion of the set standardisation activity
**Desirable:**
Evidence of recent Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in the sector
