Requirements:

• Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or Environmental Science.

• Minimum of 3 years' experience in drainage design, including SuDS, pumping station design, and flood risk assessment.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with GIS (QGIS) is advantageous.

• Strong communication, project management skills, and a proactive, client-focused approach.

• Membership of a professional body and aspiration toward chartered status is desirable.

Drainage Engineer opportunity available with our client, a family-run drainage contractor based in Cambridgeshire. The opportunity comes with a 30k salary and lots of opportunity for overtime (starting at 1.5x pay, rising to 2x).

Drainage Engineer Job Responsibilities

• Travelling across East Anglia from the depot in Wisbech, completing reactive and planned drainage maintenance
• Using high pressure jetting equipment to clear both internal and external drain blockages
• Completing basic internal plumbing works
• Using CCTV camera equipment to compete drain surveys, locate blockages, and write up reports
• Visiting commercial and domestic sites including homes, schools, factories, and manufacturing buildings

Drainage Engineer Job Requirements

• Basic understanding of the plumbing and drainage industry
• Confident in completing basic drainage unblocks using either rodding or jetting equipment
• Full UK driving licence
• Based within a commutable distance of Wisbech and able to get to the yard
• CSCS card and water jetting tickets desirable but not essential

Drainage Engineer Salary & Benefits

• Basic salary starting at 30,000, depending on experience
• Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
• Overtime Rates: Mon - Sat 1.5x, Sun 2x
• On Call Rota: 1 in 4 weeks, 70 retainer fee and overtime paid on call outs
• 28 days holiday, including bank holidays, rising by one day per year (max 33 days)

• Possess 2 years’ experience working in UK development-related infrastructure engineering.
• Experience in preparing highways or drainage designs, particularly S38, S278, and S104 processes.
• Background in writing flood risk assessments or drainage strategies.
• Proficient in drainage design principles and skilled in using Microdrainage and/or Causeway Flow software.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Understanding of relevant UK design standards, including DMRB, Manual for Streets, Sewers for Adoption, and national planning policies
• Skilled in in AutoCAD and Civils 3D.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Right to work in the UK.

Drainage Engineer – Field-Based
Location: Bournemouth
Type:  Permanent, Full-Time
Hours:  Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Salary:  £34,000 – £6,000 per year plus commission, OTE 4,000 pa

We are looking for an experienced and customer-focused Drainage Engineer  to join our growing team in a client-facing, field-based role. You’ll attend domestic and commercial properties, diagnose and resolve drainage issues, and represent the business professionally on-site.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend both emergency and planned drainage jobs
• Investigate, diagnose, and resolve issues using CCTV surveys, high-pressure water jetting, rods, etc.
• Carry out drain clearance, descaling, root cutting, patch lining, and minor excavations
• Liaise directly with customers to explain issues and solutions
• Identify and recommend additional work where appropriate
• Maintain strict adherence to health and safety procedures 
• Contribute to brand reputation with excellent service and technical knowledge
• Take part in an on-call rota to support 24/7 service delivery

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum 1 year’s drainage experience (essential)
• Customer-facing experience with strong communication skills
• HPWJ certification preferred
• Plumbing knowledge and/or drainage tanker experience (desirable)
• Full, clean UK driving licence
• CSCS card (preferred)
• Comfortable using mobile apps and technology on-site
