The eDiscovery and Digital Forensics unit is typically engaged to assist with data collections, processing and review support in the context of investigations, disputes, turnaround, restructuring and process improvement engagements and other critical business issues. The team’s advisory work involves large and diverse data sets across client enterprises including email, servers, cloud storage, social media, mobile devices, instant messaging, and collaboration tools. The team works with data analytics and subject matter experts to assess and support the needs of the client's specific situation.

Role Overview

The role will involve the delivery of eDiscovery services to our clients and contributing to the overall operation of the unit. This would include:

  • Project management for the delivery of eDiscovery services to our clients, including data processing and review workflows;
  • Working closely with the client/their lawyers to become familiar with their objectives and challenges; 
  • Being the principal day-to-day point of contact for the client and managing the lifecycle of the project, including billing;
  • Managing workstreams and teams as part of the wider project delivery;
  • Understanding of the EDRM model and applying advanced, strategic eDiscovery work flows to assist clients with complex information challenges;
  • Researching developments and new tools in the eDiscovery arena;
  • Familiarity with data collection management and data integrity;
  • Producing reports (which may include witness statements) relating to the provenance or integrity of data collected;
  • Supporting business development activities such as client presentations and pitches;
  • Mentoring, supervising and delegating tasks to junior colleagues to support their day-to-day work, training and professional development;
  • Building relationships with current and potential future clients, demonstrating capabilities to potential clients, and providing supporting documentation, including proposals and cost estimates;
  • Assisting in the management of finances of each engagement including documenting project budgets, adjusting budgets as appropriate, communicating changes in budgets internally and to the client, and managing the revenue forecasting and invoicing process;
  • Reviewing and discussing expectations, anticipated scope of work, and project timelines with clients;
  • Managing project close-out processes including data return and database archival, ensuring that clients understand the implications of on-going data retention relative to their company’s policies;
  • Providing clients and senior staff with periodic status updates, reports, etc. throughout the engagement;
  • Generating consistent and thorough documentation to support processes executed throughout the project lifecycle - specific tasks may include writing up interview notes and drafting emails, memoranda or detailed reports; and
  • Serving as a role model as part of a growing firm dedicated to its people, culture, and high-quality services.

Consulting and management skills:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working in the eDiscovery arena.
  • Familiarity with the EDRM model and experience in using related products / tools such as: eDiscovery Review/Processing Platforms (e.g. Relativity, Reveal, Brainspace, Disco, Ringtail, CasePoint, Nuix, or comparable).
  • Preferable to have industry recognised technical accreditations, such as RCA.
  • Awareness of Forensic Capture Software (e.g. EnCase, Cellebrite, Oxygen, FTK) and general IT infrastructure, such as Office 365, Microsoft and Linux operating systems, email journal platforms and backup software.

What will you do?
Applying your expertise in eDiscovery and Data Solutions, you will coordinate multiple litigation and investigation matters of varying complexity while working with internal and external legal teams and IT personnel. As part of the team, you will have the opportunity to explore and apply emerging AI technologies to improve departmental efficiency, collaborate with the core team to develop skills in either the Collection/Preservation or Processing/Review/Production areas of eDiscovery.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Lead and handle eDiscovery projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
+ Coordinate with legal teams, IT staff, and external vendors to ensure detailed project execution.
+ Use Microsoft Purview and RelativityOne for data collection, processing, review, and production.

+ Experience using Microsoft Purview eDiscovery to search and export data
+ Experience with collection tools such as EnCase and Cellebrite's Digital Collector

+ Project management skills with the capability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.

Legal Technology Specialist Key Responsibilities:


  • Support implementation of procedures for capturing, storing, accessing, and sharing materials and information
  • Design and manage practice area portals (SharePoint, HighQ) to maintain up-to-date knowledge and resource repositories
  • Collaborate with Innovation team and KM/Practice Support Lawyers to advance legal technology strategy
  • Manage day-to-day practice technology, including contract analysis, document automation, e-signature, client collaboration, and transaction management tools
  • Deliver tailored training and support to lawyers and Business Services staff, including 1:1 sessions for new lawyers
  • Design quality assurance workflows to ensure accuracy of portal and client app updates
  • Conduct usage audits of Innovation products to identify inactive projects/users for archiving or removal


Legal Technology Specialist Skills & Requirements:


  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a similar role within a law firm
  • Technical proficiency in adopting and implementing new technology
  • Experience with collaboration software applications such as HighQ, Legatics, SmartSheet, or SharePoint
  • Knowledge of generative AI or machine learning based legal software such as Harvey, CoCounsel, and Kira would be highly advantageous
  • Experience with document automation software such as Contract Express, Hotdocs, PatternBuilder or Office & Dragons

Our client is a leading innovator in the technology sector and is searching for a strategic and highly accomplished Head of Legal to lead their legal operations in Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, UK . This pivotal senior role involves overseeing all legal aspects of the company's operations, from intellectual property and data privacy to commercial contracts and litigation management. You will be responsible for developing and implementing legal strategies that support the company's growth and mitigate risks. This includes managing a dedicated legal team, advising the board of directors and executive management on critical legal matters, and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of technology law, including software licensing, SaaS agreements, IP protection, and data security regulations such as GDPR. You will be a key player in negotiating high-value contracts with key partners and clients, managing intellectual property portfolios, and handling any potential disputes or litigation. This is an office-based position requiring a strong presence within our Newcastle upon Tyne headquarters, offering direct collaboration with key stakeholders and the opportunity to shape the legal future of a forward-thinking company.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert legal counsel on all matters relating to the company's technology-focused business.
  • Manage and develop the in-house legal team.
  • Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and execution of commercial agreements, including customer contracts, vendor agreements, and partnership deals.
  • Lead the company's intellectual property strategy, including patent filings, trademark registrations, and enforcement.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection laws (e.g., GDPR) and advise on privacy policies.
  • Manage external counsel and oversee any litigation or dispute resolution processes.
  • Advise on corporate governance, compliance, and risk management.
  • Stay abreast of legal and regulatory developments impacting the technology industry.
Qualifications:
  • Admitted to practice law in England and Wales with a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience, ideally with a focus on technology, corporate law, and intellectual property.
  • Proven experience in a senior legal counsel or general counsel role, preferably within the technology sector.
  • Strong understanding of SaaS, software licensing, data privacy, and IP law.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic business environment.
