The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for leading the electrical design scope of multi-disciplinary engineering projects from concept through to completion. Key Responsibilities


  • Project Design Ownership: Lead the electrical design lifecycle for assigned projects — from initial concept development, system architecture, and detailed design, through to validation and delivery.
  • Technical Input to Proposals: Provide engineering input during the quotation and tender stages, ensuring that all proposed solutions align with customer specifications, applicable codes, and design best practices.

  • Design Validation & Compliance : Ensure all electrical designs comply with relevant standards (IEC, ATEX, UL, CSA, etc.) and are validated against performance, safety, and functional requirements.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Produce comprehensive design documentation, test procedures, and technical manuals for Operations & Maintenance (O&M) deliverables.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical, instrumentation, and project management teams to coordinate design interfaces, manage risks, and optimize system integration.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development of internal design standards, best practices, and design tools to improve engineering efficiency and consistency.
  • Project Support: Liaise with operations and manufacturing teams for scheduling, resource allocation, and progress updates; support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site commissioning as required.


Preferred Skills and Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline preferred.
  • Chartered Engineer (or working toward) status desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years in electrical design engineering within industrial, oil & gas, or petrochemical environments.
  • Strong understanding of switchboards, MCCs, power distribution systems, and control panel design.
  • Familiarity with hazardous area equipment and certifications (e.g., ATEX, IECEx, Class/Div).

Our client is a prestigious engineering consultancy renowned for its innovative solutions in power systems and renewable energy integration. They are seeking a highly experienced Electrical Engineering Lead to spearhead their power systems division. This is a fully remote role, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere in the UK, while leading a talented team of engineers on critical national and international projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex electrical power systems, including generation, transmission, and distribution networks.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of electrical engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
  • Oversee project execution from conceptualization through to commissioning, ensuring adherence to technical specifications, timelines, and budgets.
  • Conduct detailed power system studies, including load flow, fault analysis, transient stability, and protection coordination.
  • Develop and review engineering designs, calculations, schematics, and specifications for electrical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., IEC, IEEE, BS).
  • Manage client relationships, technical communications, and project deliverables effectively.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies and methodologies to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for electrical system designs.
  • Contribute to proposals and business development efforts by providing technical expertise and estimations.
  • Lead troubleshooting and problem-solving for complex electrical engineering challenges.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in power electronics, renewable energy integration, and grid modernization.
  • Ensure the safety and integrity of all designs and project execution.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in Power Systems.
  • Significant (8+ years) experience in electrical power system design, analysis, and project management.
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams and projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of power system dynamics, protection schemes, and grid integration.
  • Proficiency with power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
  • Strong understanding of relevant international and national electrical engineering standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote setting.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer status is highly desirable.
  • Experience with renewable energy integration (solar, wind) is a strong advantage.
