This is a key, autonomous role within a nationally recognised housebuilder known for quality and innovation.

Candidates may come from consultancy, a housebuilder, or a utilities contractor background, and should bring 5+ years' experience in residential development. In addition, we are supporting the Midlands division in hiring an Assistant Civil Engineer to strengthen their Technical team. This role is suited to individuals with 3+ years' experience in either a housebuilder environment or a residential-led engineering consultancy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support site appraisals and resolve engineering challenges by developing road and sewer designs in collaboration with approving authorities.
  • Prepare and coordinate detailed designs for Sections 38 and 104, including external levels and private drainage.
  • Manage the Foundation Design Consultant and deliver the full civil engineering package.
  • Secure approvals and complete agreements for S38, S104, and foundation designs.
  • Address engineering-related planning conditions and resolve technical build issues.
  • Oversee utility designs and diversions, arrange maintenance inspections, and manage bond releases for S38 and S104.
  • Lead design team meetings and coordinate with site teams to ensure smooth delivery.

We are seeking civil engineers across all areas of water and wastewater infrastructure / networks and treatment. Due to the nature of upcoming projects, ideally, you will also have experience in one or more of these technical areas:

  • Sustainable Urban Drainage and Surface Water Management
  • Trunk Mains and Large Diameter Pipeline Design
  • Service Reservoirs
  • Clean Water Treatment

Overview

Our growth strategy within our Water division for 2025 and beyond is creating a buzz around the place. You will be partnering with the top water clients in the area (and in the UK) to help develop a better way of how we obtain, clean, and distribute water for our local communities.

In addition, you can help on UK wide projects, working on some of the largest, most iconic water projects in the UK. We’re one team, we help each other out – whether you’re based in Scotland, the South of England, Ireland – we work together.

About you

You will be degree qualified (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering. Ideally, you will be Chartered and be a member of a relevant engineering institution. Previous experience working within the water industry is preferred as would a working knowledge of the Process and MEICA disciplines. An understanding of environmental issues including net carbon would also be preferred, but is not essential.

Drawing from your extensive experience in the water industry, you will, as part of a team, develop solutions from need to detailed design and have the ability to support and manage project team members. You will also possess experience in undertaking scoping and design within required timescales and design budgets, and also produce and check technical reports.
