**About you**
You will be degree qualified (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering. Ideally, you will be Chartered and be a member of a relevant engineering institution.
Previous experience working within the water industry is preferred.
Drawing from your civil engineering experience in the water industry, you will, as part of a team, develop solutions from needs identification and feasibility, through to outline and detailed design. You will have the ability to collaborate with other disciplines and have experience in supporting and leading other civil engineers. You will also have a track record of undertaking designs and completing design deliverables within required timescales and design budgets.

**Your Role**
As a **Senior Civil Engineer** , you'll contribute across the full project lifecycle-from asset planning and strategy to concept, outline, and detailed design. You'll be responsible for developing civil engineering designs, working closely with our Principal Engineers and Design Leads. You'll also support and mentor junior engineers, helping to build a strong, collaborative team. You will also have access to Stantec's world-class expertise to help you deliver innovative solutions utilising advanced technologies.
**About You**
We are interested in speaking with passionate engineers with design and/or civils construction experience in the water industry. We will support your growth and development through training and project exposure, though prior experience within wastewater networks, surface water management and sewage treatment would be beneficial.

**A little more about your role.**
WSP are seeking Engineers with experience in Water, Drainage and Environmental Engineering for rivers and flood defence projects to expand the growth of our expertise and technical capability. We support clients and projects throughout the UK with a focus on the Environment Agency, Local Authorities and other asset management organisations, providing designs from concept through to detailed designs across a range of sectors.
As part of the role, you will be responsible for:
+ delivery of a wide variety of civil engineering river and flood related schemes;
+ preparing and supporting business cases for works to protect from flooding;
+ developing outline and detailed designs for engineering flood projects including hydraulic systems, flood defences, drainage and ancillary structures etc;
+ working with wider infrastructure clients (internal and external) in designing hydraulic structures (culverts, weirs, walls, outfalls, scour protection etc) associated with large infrastructure projects in highways, rail and property;
+ preparing work schedules and specifications for contractors;
+ carrying out asset inspection works of above and below ground structures;
+ supervise construction works (supported by others where required);

Your role:
We are looking for a Graduate Civil Engineer to be based in our Warrington office, joining our 2026 Graduate Programme.
You will be involved in significant projects in our water division from day one, both locally and nationally. From outline to detailed design, you'll input through producing drawings and design calculations to help develop a better way to obtain, clean, and distribute water for our communities (e.g. pollution management schemes).
In your day-to-day work you will solve engineering problems, use design software and tools such as ArcGIS to carry out engineering calculations, develop designs, produce drawings, reports, and presentations, you will also have the opportunity to undertake site visits. You'll be doing all this is as part of a friendly and collaborative project team along with the support and guidance of our highly skilled Senior and Principal Civil Engineers. You'll also be given dedicated mentors to support you in your journey to Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status with the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Our Civil Engineers work across the project lifecycle in asset planning / strategy, concept design, outline design and also detailed design, within our design and build joint ventures. We work on a variety of project sectors across the UK and Ireland, including clean water treatment and networks, wastewater treatment, wastewater networks, flooding, and urban drainage.
You'll be responsible for the development of the civil engineering design, guided by our Project Technical Leads and Senior / Principal Civil Engineers within the team. You will also have the opportunity to work on frameworks across the UK and Ireland, collaborating with colleagues, external organisations, partners & stakeholders nationwide.

**About You**
You'll have a degree in Civil Engineering and be incorporated or Chartered / working toward Chartered status with a relevant professional body such as ICE or CIWEM.
You will also have a passion for the Water & Environment sector, with experience of delivering community focused projects and working collaboratively with project teams to develop innovative solutions. This will include experience achieved in wastewater infrastructure, such as the delivery of sewer flooding and pollution projects, ideally with a focus on Sustainable Urban Drainage and Surface Water Management.
Finally, you will have experience of working in a client facing role, leading client engagement and collaboration on a regular basis.

**Your role:**
**We have an opportunity for a Degree Apprentice (Level 6) Civil Engineer to join our Apprentice Programme in our Civil Engineering team based in Warrington.**

This isn't just an engineering job; it's a mission to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions that directly address the climate emergency and significantly reduce our environmental impact. You will work within a diverse and highly skilled team, where your efforts will directly support critical infrastructure from treatment works and pumping stations to essential pipelines. Your day-to-day work will be dynamic and fulfilling: you will solve complex engineering problems and assist Senior Engineers throughout the entire project lifecycle; design and develop solutions by performing engineering calculations, using advanced design software and tools, and producing high-quality drawings, reports, and presentations; and innovate to reduce our environmental impact and provide sustainable solutions that support our clients' most pressing needs. You'll be working within a supportive and friendly project environment, gaining invaluable experience and guidance from our highly skilled Senior Civil Engineers and Hydraulic Network Modellers. You'll also learn how to use relevant industry software and programs, including Computer Aided Design (CAD), to produce infrastructure drawings that develop a better way of how we obtain, clean, and distribute water for our communities.
Your role will place you on the cutting edge of water management, contributing to projects that truly matter. As part of our water team, you will be part of project teams working on managing water resources and reservoirs, producing high-quality drinking water for public supply, distributing water for our communities, protecting the natural environment from pollution, and alleviating flooding for local communities.
This apprenticeship will enable you to learn whilst you earn as you study for an academic qualification. You will gain a Level 6 BEng Civil Engineering degree in conjunction with our Training Provider, Coventry University (block release). This will be discussed further during the recruitment process.

For our Level 6 apprenticeship you will need either:
+ UCAS tariff points:112 points minimum.
+ A level: BBC, including Mathematics at grade B or above and one other analytical subject (also grade B or above). Analytical subjects can include;physics, biology/human biology, chemistry, computer science, further mathematics and design and technology (excluding general studies)
+ BTEC (Level 3) Extended Diploma:DDM. Thismust include a Merit or above in Mathematics and Further Mathematics in Construction Units. Accepted courses: Civil Engineering, Aerospace, Construction and the Built Environment and Mechanical Engineering.
+ Scottish Highers: 4 SQA Higher - A, B, B, B (to include Mathematics)
+ Irish Leaving Certificate: (Highers) H3, H3, H3, H3, H3, H4 (at least H3 for Mathematics and one other Analytical Science)
+ International Baccalaureate: 32 points/655. HL5 in Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches) and HL5 in another Science subject, including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design Technology, Physics, Environmental Systems and Societies.

**About you**
You will be degree qualified (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering. Ideally, you will be Chartered and be a member of a relevant engineering institution.
Previous experience working within the water industry along with Design and Construction knowledge is preferred.
Drawing from your civil engineering experience in the water industry, you will, as part of a team, develop solutions from needs identification and feasibility, through to outline and detailed design. You will have the ability to collaborate with other disciplines and have experience in supporting and leading other civil engineers.
