**Job Description**
AECOM has and exciting opportunity for an Environmental Compliance & Permitting Consultant to join our UK & Ireland EHS Team within the Environment and Energy business at consultant grade. You will play a key role in supporting the growth and continued success of the Environmental Permitting business in the UK and Ireland.
Based within a specialist team but working as part of the wider AECOM business you would provide environmental compliance and permitting support across all industry sectors, through a combination of global framework agreements and site specific commissions. You would support AECOMu2019s clients from established process industries, manufacturing and power generation companies with the management of compliance requirements for current and planned activities. AECOM is also helping to shape the development of good compliance practice for the transition to a low carbon economy.
This role would suit a consultant with some post qualified experience in environmental compliance and permitting, some health and safety experience and knowledge of ISO 14001 standards would also be beneficial
**As our EHS & Remediation team covers UK & I , and as we support hybrid working we are flexible in terms of base location. This position can be based from our offices in Birmingham, Chesterfield, Leeds, Manchester or Nottingham.**

**Environmental Permitting**
Deliver Environmental Permit applications, variations, transfers, and surrenders for a variety of clients across the UK and Ireland.
**Environmental Assessment & Risk Management**
Conduct environmental risk assessments to identify potential environmental impacts and risks.
Develop and implement mitigation measures and management plans to minimise impacts and enhance performance.
**Compliance & Regulatory Advisory**
Advise clients on the implications of legislation, regulatory guidance, and Best Available Techniques (BAT).
Ensure client compliance with relevant environmental legislation, best practice, and BAT standards.
**Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration**
Support clients in regulator and stakeholder engagement.
Work collaboratively with EHS colleagues and the wider Environment team to deliver robust assessments.
**Environmental Auditing**
Carry out environmental audits, including assessments of legal compliance.
**Qualifications**

A base first degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering or science discipline.

Extensive working knowledge of relevant UK National and European environmental legislation.
**Skills**
Excellent report writing, technical reviewing, and communication skills.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated geo-Environmental Engineer to join a successful contaminated land team in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented, professional geologist, with a passion for delivering high-quality consultancy services in the geotechnical, geo-environmental and remediation sectors. You will play a key role in supporting a variety of projects, ranging from small-scale developments to large, multidisciplinary infrastructure schemes.
Geo-environmental Engineer Responsibilities:
- Conduct geotechnical and geo-environmental site investigations, including desk studies, site supervision, and data collection.
- Prepare technical reports, including Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 Site Investigations, and interpretative geotechnical and environmental assessments.
- Provide technical advice and solutions to clients, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Undertake risk assessments and provide recommendations for remediation strategies where necessary.
- Assist in the preparation of tenders, proposals, and project documentation.
Required criteria:
- A degree in Geology/Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (desirable but not essential).
- Proven experience in geotechnical and/or geo-environmental engineering.
- Strong knowledge of UK regulations, standards, and environmental guidelines
- Proficiency in contaminated land interpretive report writing and remediation strategies

Your day to day geo-environmental engineer duties will include: Conducting site visits to supervise investigations and collect samples. Analysing soil, rock, and groundwater data to assess site conditions. Preparing detailed reports and presenting findings to clients and stakeholders. Liaising with contractors, engineers, and other professionals to ensure project requirements are metand managing project timelines and budgets effectively.

An opportunity has come available for a Geo-Environmental Engineer in the Wigan area to gain exposure in delivering ground engineering projects throughout its full cycle, within a multi-disciplinary environment.
This Geo-Environmental Engineer role will involve both site work and office deliverables which include all aspects of project management and technical reporting.
Geo-Environmental Engineer responsibilities include management of all site/ground investigation works (locally), helping draft phase 1 & 2 reports, remediation methods, risk assessments, foundation design/recommendations and validation works.

Job Description
This is a full-time, permanent position. Working alongside an experienced team based in Sheffield, serving 7 UK offices on projects across the UK, you will get involved with a wide variety of geotechnical and land contamination projects covering sectors including energy, infrastructure, renewable energy, development/regeneration projects and local authorities.
What you can expect in this position:
As a geo-environmental engineer you’ll be responsible for undertaking project investigations, with a focus on site-based work. This will include both geo-environmental and geotechnical site investigations, data interpretation and reporting. The role would suit someone with a proactive ‘can do’ approach, close attention to detail, enthusiasm to get the job done well and ability to get on with a wide range of people.
What you'll be doing:
• Undertaking Preliminary Risk Assessments (Phase 1 Desk Studies) and intrusive site investigations for environmental and/or geotechnical purposes in line with national standards and codes of practice.
• Managing fieldwork activities including supervising drilling and excavation works, and undertaking gas and groundwater monitoring, groundwater sampling and surface water sampling. You will be logging rocks and soils and carrying out in situ testing.
• Supervising Remediation and Earthworks projects and liaising with Contractors to ensure works are executed in line with an approved specification.
• Supporting the project managers in planning new projects including liaising with subcontractors and suppliers and preparing health, safety, environment and quality documentation.
• Scheduling soil, rock and water samples for chemical and geotechnical laboratory testing.
• Splitting your time approximately 50/50 site works to office time with occasional requirement to stay away from home for the more distant projects.
• Writing factual and interpretative reports.
• Supporting Managers in preparing fee proposals.
What we're looking for:
• BSc degree level qualified in Geology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or a related subject essential.
• 1-3 years previous relevant work experience

• Experience supervising windowless sampling, trial pitting etc, including management of sub-contractors and on site safety
• Rock core logging capabilities is advantageous but not essential

• Flexible and adaptive
• Skilled with Microsoft Office applications in particular Word and Excel.
