Who you will interact with
- You will be part of the Welding team, reporting to Welding Supervisor. li>You will be fully supported in your position by others across the business.
Coded Welder/Fabricator Requirements
Sterling TT require experienced coded Welders to carry out fabrication and welding work as directed by the Welding Supervisor.
You must have worked for a minimum of 2 years within welding in a manufacturing industry.
Your normal hours of work will be 37½ per week on our ‘late’ shift, i.e.
Monday – Wednesday 1.30pm – 11.30pm
Thursday 1.30pm – 11.00pm.
Essential attributes to succeed
- A stro g work ethic and positive attitude with good attention to detail.
- The ability to:
- Solve problems,
- Work under pressure,
- Prioritise
- Must be able to work under your own initiative, but also to work as part of a team.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing.

Key skills required

Your responsibilities
- Ensuring that the company’s procedures are followed. < i>Maintaining good housekeeping practices.
- Look after the company’s interests at all times. < i>Comply strictly with the company health and safety policy.
- Carry out production duties in the fabrication and welding areas as directed by the Welding Supervisor.
- Participate in the quality control process relevant to the work carried out, and ensure all defective work is immediately brought to the attention of the Welding Supervisor.
- Carry out any relevant administrative tasks, including the booking of jobs using the EPICOR MRP system, the recording of information for Welder Qualification purposes.
- Carry out MPI/Dye Pen Inspections as required.
- Continually strive for the highest quality standards, whilst minimising waste and proactively seeking value add opportunities through continuous improvement methodologies.
- Carry out and demonstrate 5S culture in your area of work as required.
- To ensure that all work undertaken is completed in a timely manner.

About the Role
As a Fabricator Welder (known internally as a Kiln Car Maintenance Operative) you will be working as part of the maintenance team, repairing and maintaining the equipment (kiln cars) which transport bricks in and out of our kilns and dryers. This role is a hands-on maintenance role, where you will become a specialist in your particular area.
We will provide you with full training and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to enable you to work safely and effectively. Duties include:
- repairing the steelwork and main frame of the kiln cars li>straighten kiln car decks and replacing damaged blocks
- maintain minimum levels of refractory blocks
- repair/grease kiln car axels and wheels
- strip and rebuild kiln car refractories
- record materials usage & maintain stock records
- conduct running repairs to fleet (such as wheel lubrication)
- maintain accurate records and high standards of housekeeping
Hours of Work: 7.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday
About You
