The Farm’s Dairy herd currently consists of 300 Pedigree Holstein and Ayrshire cows with a herd average of over 1000 litres. Half of the herd is milked using our GEA rapid exit parlour whilst the other half managed and milked through 2 Lely A5 astronauts in a separate barn with robotic slurry collector. The dairy team is responsible for demonstrating the very highest levels of best practice throughout the unit from dairy hygiene and animal welfare to communication and student development.

The farm team is also responsible for growing and maintaining the brand of Reaseheath both as a college and a farming business, engaging with industry and returning new industry thinking to the college.

About the role

Our farm serves as a vital teaching resource for the Agriculture department and the wider college, with a focus on best practice, innovation, and student development. You will help ensure the farm delivers an outstanding learner experience while operating as a commercial enterprise.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain high standards of animal welfare, hygiene, and farm safety.
  • Operate and maintain modern farm equipment, including robotic milking systems and telescopic handlers.
  • Support the training and instruction of students in practical farm tasks and machinery use.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and reputation of Reaseheath College as a centre of excellence in agriculture.
  • Engage with industry partners and bring new thinking back to the college.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have proven experience in agriculture, particularly with livestock production systems.
  • Demonstrate aptitude and enthusiasm for the full range of livestock-related duties.
  • Demonstrate a strong eye for detail and commitment to best practice in animal welfare.
  • Be confident in operating modern farm machinery and technology.
  • Hold (or be willing to work towards) relevant qualifications for telescopic handler instruction (RTITB).
  • Be an effective communicator and team player, able to support and instruct students.

We can offer you:

  • 35 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • A two-week festive/New Year shut down
