SF are excited to be partnering with a client based in Derby who are looking for a Financial Accountant on a full time, permanent basis. This role is open to Financial and Management Accountants who are looking for a role where they can progress.

Hours: 8:30am - 5pm

You will support the Finance Director and wider business with essential financial reporting, process improvement, and compliance tasks that contribute to the integrity and performance of the group.

Job duties:
· Supporting the creation and maintenance of Purchase Ledger accounts in line with Motus standards
· Producing and distributing key reports including the Group Cap Report and Weekly Forecasts
· Preparing monthly submissions to Head Office, including cash movements, stock profiles, and balance sheet reconciliations
· Reviewing and auditing financial data to ensure compliance with group policies
· Assisting with VAT returns and external audits
· Supporting the budgeting process and preparing documentation for annual insurance renewals
· Maintaining accurate reporting on VAT treatment, impairment provisions, and vehicle stock variances
· Acting as a key point of contact for systems such as Keyloop, Purchase Direct, and Precisionpay
· Developing and delivering training materials, accounting guides, and process improvements
· Offering direct support to the Financial Director on projects and initiatives as required

The ideal candidate will have the following:
· Highly analytical with strong Excel and reporting skills
· Organised and able to manage recurring and ad-hoc tasks across different timeframes
· A confident communicator able to liaise with senior stakeholders across the group
· Proactive and comfortable identifying and solving process issues
· Experienced in a finance support or analyst role (automotive sector experience is a bonus)

Following a period of change, the business are seeking to bolster their finance team with the appointment of a Financial Accountant, reporting directly to the Regional FD (who has an outstanding reputation for people development).


About the role :

You'll be joining the business as a Financial Accountant, working closely with finance colleagues within the business (particularly the Regional FD) to assist with statutory and taxation requirements for the UK and wider business regions. After a period of c.6 months, the role will evolve into supporting with management accounting duties and acting as a 'number 2' to the UK FD where required.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established finance professional or someone on the upward curve in their career (around 2nd time move from practice) to learn and further develop in a growing industry with total support, with a degree of ability to shape your job description over time. 

Key duties & responsibilities:

  • Preparation of statutory accounts for local entities, providing key financial information to key international stakeholders in the prep of statutory returns, ensuring full & accurate reconciliation to central ledgers
  • Supporting on month end and year-end processes
  • Accurate and timely submission of VAT returns for international sites & entities across Europe
  • Inter-company import and export transaction submissions, including the accurate recording, reconciliation, and compliance with company policies and UK tax/customs legislation
  • Work closely with various operational leadership stakeholders in preparation of accurate calculations and creation of journal entries
  • Exposure to and working with US based finance team to ensure processes are synergised
  • Leading on UK statutory audit processes, ensuring provision in a timely manner with relevant support
  • Review statutory audit findings, workling closely with the UK FD and relevant colleagues to address where applicable 
  • Overseeing the general ledger and ensuring reconciliations are completed in an accurate and timely manner 
  • Work closely with overseas tax & accounting firms, ensuring balances and those reported locally are aligned
  • Work closely with payroll to ensure accuracy and efficiency in relation to payroll pension and tax processes, resolving issues where appropriate
  • Leading on UK statutory financial requirements (such as Corporation Tax, VAT, HMRC and non-UK filings)
  • Work closely with the finance team to develop and enhance internal controls, creating and maintaining policies and procedures where applicable 
  • Supporting on financial projects and process improvement initiatives 


About you:

You will be a qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with demonstrable experience of working as part of a multi-national finanace team. You will have strong statutory finance grounding, particularly with expertise relating to VAT, import/export and Corporation Tax. Due to the structure of the business, you will ideally have worked within a business with multi-site structure. 
The ideal candidate will be a competent user of finance systems and have prior exposure to working with US owners however this is not essential.

Role Purpose:

Prepare financial reports and historical financial performance information to enable others to identify exceptions which require further action

Key Accountablities:
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts from basic data to ensure the balances are in line with accounting standards
  • Create journals from basic data for approval and processing within the general ledger to assist in the preparation of the monthly financial statements
  • Validate expenses and petty cash claims to ensure approval is granted and is within group guidelines
  • Produce and submit statutory returns such as Office of National Statistics (ONS), Intra Stat, VAT from the relevant raw data to ensure compliance with financial standards
  • Investigating account detail, responding to queries and account variances, to provide information and insight for senior management
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Attainment of or studying towards a recognised accountancy qualification

The Role 
  • You'll lead the production and distribution of monthly Flash and Management Accounts, ensuring accuracy, appropriateness and adherence to agreed timeframes, investigating variances against budgets and identifying cost-saving or growth opportunities.
  • You'll lead and manage our statutory reporting and compliance processes including the production of the annual statutory accounts and co-ordinating the year end audit.
  • You'll oversee the production of detailed annual budgets and financial forecasts (including surplus/deficit, balance sheet and cashflow statements) based on past performance, growth forecasts and current trends. Building strong relationships with all budget holders to ensure robust & accurate reporting.
  • You'll develop and provide the financial foundation for the Five to Drive framework, ensuring that financial KPIs are clearly defined, accurately measured, and integrated with the broader organizational KPI dashboard.
  • You'll develop and maintain financial models (annual budgeting and long term financial models) to support annual plans, strategic initiatives and long-term business plans ensuring robust reporting conventions and controls, but allowing appropriate flexibility for assumption changes and scenario testing.
  • You'll develop business reports of a high quality and industry leading standard, taking advantage of available analytical/ presentation software such as BI reporting with a focus on financial aspects of the Five to Drive priorities.
  • You'll ensure that the financials including KPIs are regularly benchmarked against appropriate organisations.
  • You'll collaborate with the Performance Improvement Manager to ensure financial data is accurately reflected in the organizational KPI dashboard and Five to Drive reporting.
  • You'll provide financial analysis expertise to support decision-making related to Five to Drive strategic initiatives.
  • You'll ensure the provisions of the Treasury Management policy are adhered to at all times and will assist the Finance Director to review Treasury Management policies as required.
  • You'll manage the loan portfolio with external funders/banks including loan compliance reporting, and co-ordinating the property valuations for the banks
  • You'll oversee our clients insurance programme, including pulling together the annual renewal's submission, assessing the adequacy and appropriateness of insurance cover and ensure all claims are processed efficient and effectively.
  • You'll ensure that that appropriate contracts are in place for our professional advisors, including insurance brokers, external auditors, and investment managers, undertaking competitive procurement processes as needed to ensure compliance with good practice and governance.
