Top 50, award winning, UK Law firm with over 700 lawyers nationally wishes to recruit a newly or recently qualified Commercial Real Estate Lawyer in their Chelmsford office.
Due to continued growth, we are looking to add a Solicitor/Associate to assist with a busy caseload within the Charity Real Estate team which comprises of two senior lawyers who specialise in advising charities and other not-for-profit organisations on their land and property dealings.
This role offers the opportunity for one-on-one learning and mentoring but also plenty of scope for the candidate to work with colleagues across the firm and make the role their own, with a clear path for career advancement.
- Buying and selling property for investment or occupational purposes
- Landlord and tenant issues for charities and not for profits
- Strategic development
- Compliance with charity law in the context of land and property
- Collaborative work on complex projects with the Charities team, such as the property aspects of charity mergers, incorporations, restructures and closures
The candidate
0 - 4 PQE gained within a strong regional, national or City firm with experience in some or all of the following real estate areas:
- Commercial landlord and tenant work
- Investment and asset management
- General commercial property development
- Experience of acting for banks and/or borrowers in secured lending matters
- Knowledge of providing property support as part of corporate transactions
- No prior experience of charity law is necessary as this can be taught.

Key Requirements:
- Qualified Planning/Property/Infrastructure Lawyer with 7+ years PQE (post-qualification experience).
- Extensive experience in planning law and regulations, including preparing for and handling planning applications, appeals, and inquiries.
- Proven ability to work closely with project teams to ensure legal compliance for new infrastructure projects, including drafting and negotiating contracts, managing disputes, and liaising with external stakeholders.
- Experience in DCO (Development Consent Order) delivery for large infrastructure projects, including site preparation, land acquisition, and construction delivery, is highly desirable.
- Expertise in advising on land acquisition processes for construction sites, including negotiating and drafting agreements for land rights, leases, easements, and licences, as well as compulsory purchase processes.
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and statutory requirements for large infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal matters involving multiple stakeholders, including local authorities and statutory consultees, while adhering to tight project timelines.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a collaborative approach to working with internal teams and external partners.
