About the Role
Our Thetford operation is a breaded/coated product centre of excellence. As a value added, non-kill site we have no live animals or butchery onsite. It uses best in class equipment, which enables the site to deliver significant environmental benefits. The low-energy building is the flagship development within the 2 Sisters Food Group.
We are seeking a highly skilled Head of Technical to join our team. This pivotal role will see you manage a large team of 96 across Technical and Hygiene, ensuring product safety and quality while delivering the technical strategy for the site. You will be working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and providing advice and technical guidance to various departments. As a customer-facing role, you'll manage customer expectations and lead on the delivery of key technical projects. Team leadership and cross-functional collaboration are key aspects of this role, and you'll have the opportunity to make a significant impact in driving the site's technical function.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage customer expectations and ensure compliance with code of practice
- Ensure the technical strategy is effectively delivered
- Lead and manage BRC, retailer and 2SFG governance audits
- Oversee the technical and hygiene teams, ensuring their alignment with the company's objectives
- Work cross-functionally with NPD, operations, engineering and senior management
- Provide technical advice to senior stakeholders
About You
You are an experienced and results-driven leader with a strong technical background. Ideally, you have extensive experience in poultry or other protein sectors, with a proven track record of managing large teams and influencing at senior leadership level. You're someone who thrives in a customer-facing environment, managing product safety and quality, and have demonstrated success in driving technical strategies forward.

Purpose:
To provide sites with a first-class technical service, which involves:
Verification and assurance of Site Technical / Quality Assurance function in line with the sites Food Safety and Quality Management Systems, legislative requirements, customer expectations and codes of practice. Supervisory management of the hygiene function in line with the sites Hygiene Management System. Providing technical advice to SMT, site departments and customers
To liaise directly with customers to ensure effective management of customer accounts, technical function at site level and product safety and quality as per agreed customer standards.
To ensure technical strategy is delivered in line with the company aim and core values.
Personal accountability for department colleagues taking full accountability for managing all aspects of conduct, absence and performance. Achieve specific Shift / Area KPI's as detailed within accountabilities below
Accountabilities:
- Provide technical leadership for site based technical, quality, hygiene & animal welfare teams and to ensure effective quality management systems are in place to guarantee both food safety and legal compliance.
- Liaise closely with department managers, divisional and group technical to share best practice and ensure that at all times the companies standards are maintained.
- Accurate reporting of KPIs to technical team and site management team- to escalate any issues directly with the Site Director and UKP Technical Director
- Review quality and food safety trend analysis (customer complaints, micro results, and quality control information), allowing generation of robust improvement plans.
- Liaise directly with the FSA team and external customers on site to ensure any corrective actions following technical visits and audits are implemented and maintained.
- Review internal/external audits are conducted as per agreed schedule and any resulting non-conformances are dealt with in a timely and appropriate manner.
Knowledge / Skills and Experience:
- Great communicator
- Solid level of numeracy - able to calculate and report on performance and shift KPI's.
- Excellent track record of managing teams; building capability, addressing any issues effectively and in compliance with legislative and company policies and procedures.
- Ability to clearly communicate and build a strong and effective team.
- Self-motivated and highly resilient.
- IOSH Managing Safety (preferred)
- Food Science related degree (preferred)
- HACCP level 4 or higher (MSc degree)
