Position Title: Specialty Doctor - Emergency Medicine Sector or Industry: Healthcare and Medical Profession or Vocation: Medical Practitioner Job Fields / Expertise: Emergency Medicine Specialty Doctor Country: United Kingdom State: North Yorkshire City: North Yorkshire Responsibilities: A Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine has responsibility for providing care for the acutely ill and injured patient, and working at a middle-grade level. To this effect they must: Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in order to support and provide an Emergency Medicine service within the Emergency Department.Provide clinical leadership as the most senior doctor on shift in the Emergency Department on site overnight, working on a full-shift rota with middle-grade colleagues.Provide resuscitation of a high order of skill when indicated and initial treatment of the emergency patient in association and agreement with their specialist colleagues.Provide advice and clinical review where appropriate to patients in the emergency department seen by more junior colleagues, as part of the emergency medical team.After initial diagnosis and emergency treatment, arrange as necessary either the admission of the patient or transfer to the care of the appropriate specialty.Where indicated, this may involve calling the appropriate specialist to the Emergency Department.Treat appropriate cases until discharge or transfer responsibility back to the General Practitioner.Out-patient care of a continuing nature will normally be referral of the patient to the appropriate specialty.Assist the ambulance and other emergency services in all matters that improve the effect of transfer of patients from the site of the emergency to the hospital.Ensure appropriate liaison with all emergency services, local authorities and other interested services, including Social Services, Health Visitors and others.
