Controls Engineer Machine Vision Specialist - The Role:
- Be responsible for the creation and development of machine vision systems including cameras, lighting, optics, and software, based on customers requirements in line with projects schedules
- Optimise the performance of vision systems, including speed, accuracy, and robustness, to meet the demands of high-speed industrial environments
- Deliver machine vision control systems which comply with the appropriate national and international standards
- Support the sales team with technical input for generation quotations for new projects
- Ensure electrical and control systems elements of machines comply with applicable regulations
- Support the project team during commissioning activities to achieve successful FAT and SAT
- Commissioning of the machines at customer's site
- Produce project documentation such as FDS, SDS, FAT test protocols, risk assessments, training material
- Provide technical machine vision support for existing customers
Controls Engineer Machine Vision Specialist - The Person:
- HND/Degree in Electrical, Electronic of Software Engineering
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
- Experience of designing and integrating machine vision systems, including cameras, lighting, optics, and software, for industrial applications
- Optimising the performance of vision systems, including speed, accuracy, and robustness, to meet the demands of high speed industrial environments
- Diagnosing and resolving issues with vision systems and ensuring their proper functioning and reliability
Located in the Dundee area, relocation assistance can be provided and the role is also open to
experienced individuals based in the UK who require sponsorship.

Cutting-edge researchers need the support of a PhD-qualified computer scientist with a specialty in image analysis, to work on 3D / 4D (space and time) datasets in the life sciences, using a combination of image processing and machine learning techniques.
You will support equally qualified colleagues with a life sciences background, putting to work your prodigious Python skills to advance the state of a growing software platform which forms the bedrock of future research for a global scientific audience.
You will bring:
- A relevant PhD, most likely in computer science, backed by a good technical degree and strong A-levels.
- Creativity and reasoning, intellectual curiosity, adaptability, drive and energy, along with an interest in working alongside researchers with diverse backgrounds.
- Strong software engineering and algorithm development skills in Python, including advanced image processing for 3D datasets, and ideally interpretation of biological (not medical) data from time series microscopy. Likely TensorFlow, Keras, PyLattice or similar.
- Ideally use of machine learning, neural networks, particularly CNNs given the data involved, feature extraction and tracking.
Familiarity with computer vision, cellular imaging, volumetric tiling, voxel imaging, 3D graphics (rendering), spherical harmonics (3D, or 4D hyperspherical), light-sheet microscopy, particle image velocimetry (PIV), EFM and/or similar areas would be beneficial. Whereas statistical approaches are not required.
This role will initially be a fixed term contract for 3+ years, with the potential to become a permanent position at that time. Salary is competitive and benefits are excellent. Flexible hours and hybrid working are available.
