Summary of Position
The Field Commissioning Engineer will play a leading role in the ongoing support of automated systems and sub-systems. This role requires hands-on skills to test and modify designs as required along with advanced diagnostic and commissioning abilities. The Field Commissioning Engineer will liaise with internal and external stakeholders across Service and Support, Software and Workshop functions to solve problems to the highest standard.
The position requires the provision of first-class support to clients, delivering modifications and upgrades on-site, and ensuring the ongoing safety and quality of automation systems through proactive servicing and problem solving for bespoke, robot based electromechanical systems.
Primary Responsibilities
- Identify root causes of electrical and software faults and implement solutions accordingly, providing feedback to appropriate departments.
- Delivery and integration of modifications and upgrades on site to meet the specification and processes of the customer.
- Provide emergency and ongoing support systems for products installed both at Loop premises and at client sites.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders throughout project lifecycle and provide updates on progress and demonstrations.
- Ensure compliance with cross departmental policies, procedures and design requirements.
- Always provide excellent customer service to Loop clients.
- Provide proactive and reactive service and support engineering to clients to ensure that automation and robotic systems are functioning to the highest capability. Often at very short notice.
- Identify electro-mechanical system faults and, where unable to provide solutions directly, liaise closely with internal stakeholders to identify and provide solution.
- Act as ambassador for the Service and Support department and promote and advocate for the department in a professional manner when carrying out the duties of the position.
- Other Service and Support administrative tasks as required.
Secondary responsibilities:

- Provide support to the Software department with system development and testing.
Person Specification
- Ability to identify faults and deliver fixes, whether directly or from another department.
- Ability to identify root causes of electrical faults and software bugs utilising good working practice with industry standard equipment.
- Customer service focused with the ability to build effective relationships with people at all levels
- Industrial robot experience (Kuka, Fanuc)
- Operational experience with PLCs and ability to fault find (Beckhoff, Siemens, IEC(phone number removed): LAD, ST, FB, SFC)
- Diagnostics of industrial fieldbus networks (EtherCAT, ProfiNET, CANopen, RS232)
- Experience working with automation/robotic, and/or industrial systems and demonstrable knowledge of how they work, particularly with respect to safety.
- Holds a full UK driving licence
- Willing and able to travel to customer sites, often at short notice
- The ability to obtain vetted security clearance/DBS checks
- Ability to plan and manage own workload, work on own initiative to complete tasks autonomously.
- Ability to read and understand technical electrical/mechanical drawings.
- Ability to communicate at a high technical level, both written and verbal English. Qualified to HNC in an electrical-focused course, or electrical apprentice trained or equivalent level or demonstrable experience.
Attitude, Aptitude and Behaviours

- Proactive communicator, independent thinker and team-worker.
- MUST be willing to travel across the UK, and possibly internationally, for the purpose of visiting client sites.

Position Summary:
Join Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. as a Technical training and support engineer and have the unique opportunity to build, grow, and share your expertise in the manufacturing of sterile injectable products. As a member of the Technical Trainer Team, you will collaborate with machinery suppliers and colleagues across our global Drug Product network. This role supports the sterile drug product network globally and reports into the Technical Operations Lead, Drug Product Division.
In this role, you will undergo an immersive technical training program lasting approximately 10-11 months. **This training will be in Germany (Munich and Stuttgart) at the suppliers' facility.** This program will provide outstanding exposure to our core processes, technologies, and equipment, allowing you to develop in-depth technical knowledge on sterile product manufacturing. You will work alongside colleagues at our Thermo Fisher sites and SME at our suppliers' facilities, gaining invaluable on-the-job professional development. Additionally, you will have access to formal learning sessions, mentoring from Subject Matter Experts, and introduction to Practical Process Improvement (PPI) methodology. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with our global network of Technical Training leaders across our Pharma Services organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement effective training solutions to build our global knowledge base by addressing identified technical knowledge gaps.
Support the start-up of new plants and implementation of new processes by maintaining contact with suppliers and customers.
Offer mentorship and supervision in addressing field problems, implementing corrective measures, and exchanging valuable insights to prevent future occurrences.
Act as an advisor regarding technological investments and development in the network.
Collaborate with Global Operational and Engineering teams to establish and exchange widely accepted methods, promoting a productive network for addressing equipment/process challenges.
Continuously upgrade your own and collective knowledge through attendance at key symposia, professional organizations, and discussion groups in the industry.
**Requirements:**
Availability to relocation/short assignment (10 months) to both suppliers' and Thermo Fisher facilities globally.
