We're looking for an ICA Engineer to join our Natural Resources team working, working on our Thames Water Major Projects Team. Location : Hybrid working from home, offices and on site at East Hyde in Luton, Bedfordshire
Hours : Permanent, Full Time – flexible and part time hours may be available if desired, just let us know
Responsibilities
We're looking for an experienced ICA Engineer to join our Natural Resources team on our Thames Water Major Projects Framework. In this role you'll provide SCADA, Instrumentation, Control & Automation engineering expertise on projects with particular emphasis on the water industry. On this framework we deliver design & build services for new and existing Infrastructure assets (below ground) and non-Infrastructure assets (above ground).
Your day to day will include:
- Review and provide constructive comment on various ICA documentation including, Control Philosophies, Functional Design Specifications, I/O schedules, instrument schedules, communications architecture drawings and MCC/RTU electrical schematics and General Arrangements, ensuring they satisfy plant design criteria and comply with asset standard requirements
- Review of ICA related installation and commissioning works on site, ensuring compliance with quality and asset standards
- Conduct fault finding and system configuration for ICA equipment including PLCs and control panels
- Engaging with the Supply Chain to provide accurate and innovative proposals and supporting the contractor procurement process
- Conduct thorough technical reviews of Electrical Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) to verify compliance with project and legislative requirements
What are we looking for?
This ICA Engineer role is great for you if you have:
- A HNC qualification in Electrical/Electronic or Instrumentation engineering or similar discipline
- Experience in ICA engineering, PLC's, HMI's, Profibus networks & SCADA installations, as well as good knowledge of large motor control centres (MCC) and associated ICA sections
- A knowledge of analytical instrumentation such as Flowmeters, temperature meters and pressure meters, as an example
- Experience of contactor management and of reviewing contractors' technical submissions

What you’ll be doing:
- Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA
- Work with a complex relationship of stakeholders to provide oversight in the delivery of the vehicle control solution, and the supporting vehicle control strategy
- Work closely with the Office of the Chief Engineer, to support assurance activities.
- Work with the engineering manager in the delivery of the vehicle control system, reporting suitable progress through agile toolsets
- Deliver the response to the engineering delivery plan, ensuring that the plan is delivered to schedule
- Provide guidance and instruction on the engineering methods/process to delivery the engineering delivery plan
- Work with the Engineering Delivery Team with varying levels of SQEP to develop technical solutions, developing the team members and nurturing their development
- Engage with legacy stakeholders in the development of a technical solution from a known baseline design
Your skills and experiences:
Essential
- Experience in developing a C&I design for a large scale C&I system ensuring it meets a wide range of requirements, such as functional, defence standards, industrial standards, etc.
- Experience with managing non-functional requirements (i.e. EMC, shock, etc.) meeting industrial compliance
- Experience of authoring and/or reviewing design documents, such as I/O schedules, functional design specification, functional chronicle, interface control document, etc.
- Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant STEM subject (Engineering/ Physics/ Maths/ Science)
Desirable
- Understanding of control system architecture and communication protocols (i.e. RS-485, PROFIBUS)
- History in IEC 61508 – Functional Safety (or similar) and production of supporting evidence to substantiate safety claims
- Experience with Manoeuvring Systems from various industries
