Responsible for inspecting finished vehicles to identify paint imperfections, carrying out spot repairs and refinishing, and performing disassembly and reassembly of vehicle parts as required to achieve a factory-quality finish.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect vehicles for paint defects, scratches, dents, and surface irregularities.
- Perform spot repair and paint correction on finished vehicles.
- Carry out sanding, priming, color matching, painting, and polishing work to OEM standards.
- Disassemble and reassemble vehicle components (e.g., bumpers, trims, lights) to facilitate paint repair.
- Ensure proper blending and finishing for seamless repair.
- Work with modern paint systems and application techniques (water-based, solvent-based).
- Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe working environment.
- Collaborate with quality control and production teams to ensure timely delivery.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of automotive painting and refinishing techniques.
- Ability to detect and correct minor paint defects.
- Skilled in sanding, masking, spraying, and polishing.
- Experience with vehicle part assembly/disassembly.
- Attention to detail and focus on high-quality standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications:
- Relevant experience as an Automotive Paint Technician, Spot Repair Technician, or similar.

We have an exciting opportunity that has arisen for a Fleet Maintenance Controller - Specialist Vehicles to join our growing Operations Team here at Holman UK. The role is based in our Birmingham office, near the NEC with the opportunity for hybrid working (3 set days per week in office, Tuesday - Thursday), following successful completion of a 6 month probationary period. This is a permanent opportunity and the salary is circa £36,000.00 per year dependent on qualifications and experience.
These roles will be responsible for looking after our specialist vehicle fleet e.g. platform elevating vans and HGVs, overhead poleing vehicles etc. Mechanical qualifications or good knowledge around vehicle compliance requirements and full appreciation of the necessity of vehicles and equipment being compliant is essential.
Responsibilities- ensure costs are managed effectively, vehicle availability is maximized, and customers are provided with exceptional service. This primarily involves:
- managing authorisation requests promptly and efficiently, validating work is necessary and correct pricing and labour times are applied, challenging vendors appropriately and highly accurate input of all appropriate information into Holman systems to the extent determined by the business.
- Controlling downtime effectively, conducting quality work progression activity and updating systems clearly and accurately.
- Engaging with customers appropriately in relation to authorisation activities and determining the most cost effective solutions, and ensuring customers are updated appropriately on work progress.

- AIMS AND PURPOSES OF THE JOB
The post is to strengthen the Automotive team and supervise the day to day running of the Automotive workshops.
SUPERVISING RESPONSIBILITY
Administration within the Automotive Department is task-orientated and is widely shared amongst staff. Automotive supervising technicians are responsible to the CRQ Leader for Automotive who is their Line Manager. All staff have access to the CRQ Manager for Digital & Engineering. Administrative and other responsibilities are agreed with the CRQ Leader. Staff may have additional responsibilities within the Directorate agreed with your line manager.
KEY ROLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assisting and maintaining the day-to-day operations within the general and Automotive workshops.
- Cleaning, servicing, repair and routine maintenance of relevant workshop equipment.
- Maintenance of safety equipment and procedures.
- Assisting teaching staff by, in particular, the design and manufacture of teaching aids and demonstration techniques, as required.
- Assisting in tasks relating to the running of the relevant Directorate workshops including the monitoring of stock levels and re-ordering of materials for the relevant areas.
- The supervision of training as required.
- Setting up (and safe return) of workshop equipment to support investigating, demonstrations, tests, examinations and practical work.
- Assisting with student's projects.
- Preparation and transportation of instruments, materials, tools and equipment.
- The organisation and maintenance of such documentation and records of work commensurate with the above.
- To assist other technicians allied to the engineering workshop areas regarding routine maintenance duties relevant to trade experience.
- To comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Regulations regarding him/her and others affected by his/her work.
- Attend parents' evenings, open days and other functions.
- Relevant duties in connection with the safe maintenance of college buildings, installations and equipment in conjunction with college maintenance staff, as required.
- To commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- To take direct responsibility for own continuous professional development.
- To participate in the College's Appraisal Scheme.
- To undertake such other duties as are commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.

- CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
- The appointment is subject to the Conditions of Service for Business Support Staff.

- SALARY
- The salary range for this post is from £24,675 to £26,821 per annum pro rata. Your starting salary will be dependent upon your qualifications and experience. Once you have successfully passed your probationary period, your salary will increase within the salary band on an annual incremental basis, until you reach the top of the salary scale.
- HOURS OF WORK
- The hours of work will be based on 18.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum.
- ANNUAL LEAVE
- The post carries 25 annual leave days, plus eight public bank holidays plus a further five concessionary days as 'leave to be taken at the Principal's discretion'.
- After 2 years continuous service, your annual leave entitlement will increase to 30 days per annum.
- Please note that only in exceptional circumstances, with your Directors permission, will staff be able to take more than 3 consecutive weeks of leave in any leave year.
- PENSION SCHEME
- The College operates an occupational pension scheme, namely the 'Local Government Pension Scheme'.
- PROBATIONARY PERIOD
- All newly appointed staff have to serve a 6 month probationary period. During the probationary period you will have to complete the Corporate staff induction, a Teaching and Learning Induction session if you deliver learning and additional mandatory courses on: Equality & Diversity session, Keeping Children safe in Education, Safeguarding Training session, Prevent, GDPR, Cyber Security and Health & Safety training session. Failure to complete these will prevent you from successfully completing your probation.
- REFERENCES
- All candidates have to have 2 satisfactory references.
- LOCATION
- The successful applicant will be based at Worcester and Bromsgrove but may be required to work at other locations from time to time.
- VALIDATION OF QUALIFICATIONS
- The College will undertake qualification validation by writing to the appropriate educational institute. Only those qualifications which are essential for the post will be followed up.
- CONTRACTUAL REQUIREMENT TO OBTAIN A QUALIFICATION
- If you are required to obtain a qualification as a contractual requirement, the College reviews its CPD budget on an annual basis regarding availability of funds, and cannot therefore guarantee that newly appointed staff will receive either part or full funding for the course fees. However, student loan facilities are available.
- MATHS AND ENGLISH
- All staff are required to have a minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths. If you are not already in receipt of one or both of these qualifications, you will be expected to obtain it (them) during your employment at the College.
