The Team
The Enterprise Data Platforms and Services (EDPS) team are a central technology group responsible for building, administering, govern ing , and setting global standards for a growing number of Elsevier strategic data platforms and services . The capabilities we are responsible for enable data to be collected, accessed, processed and integrated across a wide range of digital business solutions , used by functions including billing and order management, customer and product master data management , and business analytics and insights delivery . Due to our footprint across the enterprise , we are relied upon to ensure our systems are trusted, reliable and available . The technology underpinning these capabilities includes industry leading data and analytics products such as Snowflake, Tableau, DBT, Talend, Collibra, Kafka/Confluent , Astronomer/Airflow , and Kubernetes .
This forms part of a longer-term strategic direction to implement Data Mesh, and with it establish shared platform s that enables a connected collection of enterprise-ready time saving services , applying a self-service first approach . The Role
As the Software Engineering Lead , you will be responsible for nurturing a high performing cross- functional squad of software and data engineers . This squad is responsible for a growing number of strategic capabilities and components that serve a large number of engineering , d ata science, and analytics use cases and stakeholders . You will be expected to be the technical subject matter expert overseeing the squad building an Enterprise Data Platform that support s both operational and analytical use cases.
In practice, this will mean combining your technical expertise with strong stakeholder engagement to build a deep understanding of business needs when design ing a technical solution that is fit-for-purpose . To be successful, you need to understand user requirements and map diverse user interactions with the various platform components to inform your implementation decisions . Y ou will be expected to collaborate closely with other technology teams to ensure that we are driving a culture of contributing towards shared services .
Your success will be primarily measured by demonstrable increases in the number of teams adopting and contributing to the platform capabilities and shared repositories we provision, and clear improvements in technical efficiency /value gains .
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
+ Accountable for team performance - manage a high performing agile delivery squad , ensuring you nurture team skills, trust , and relationships through coaching and mentoring .
+ Accountable for releases - set technical development and coding standards that make up a robust and mature SDLC, and review team release s to guarantee these are met.
+ Accountable for shared services - build common frameworks and patterns that can be easily reused, contributed to, and reliably deployed by other teams via self-service.
+ Accountable for best practices - establish component specific guidelines in collaboration with your team, wider engineering team s , architecture , end-users, data product owners, and enablement teams, to promote these through regular knowledge sharing sessions.
+ Accountable for operational efficiency - drive improvements in efficien cy , reliab ility , and scala bility supported by logging , monitoring and observability as a foundational capability.
+ Responsible for adoption - promote the platform capabilities through technical communities of practice leadership, high internal standards for documented processes and internal guides, an d take steps to capture and action user feedback.
+ Responsible for platform evolution - collaborate with key stakeholder groups to analyse and identify capability gaps, and drive discussions required to make a case for change .
+ Responsible for technical governance - establish and manage the technical design authority process for each capability to successfully govern self-service use of the platform .
Essential Skills & Experience :
+ Team leadership - driven line manager and technical lead, deeply interested in coaching and mentoring, to motivat e cross functional squads to deliver complex technical initiatives.
+ Software development lifecycle (SDLC) - applied understanding of SDLC best practices, having delivered improvements in previous teams' SDLC and DataOps /DevOps maturity.
+ Agile delivery - facilitat ing ceremonies , removing impediments, coordinat ing requirements refinement to ensure tasks are achievable , and driv ing a culture of iterative improvemen t.
+ Modern data stack - hands-on deploy ment and govern ance of enterprise technologies at scale (e.g. Snowflake, Tableau, DBT, Fivetran , Airflow, AWS , GitHub, Terraform, etc ) for self-service workloads .
+ Coding languages - deployable and reusable Python , Java S cript , and Jinja templating languages for ETL / ELT data applications , data pipelines , and stored procedures.
+ Thought leadership and influencing - deep interest in data platforms landscape to build well-articulated proposals that are supported by strong research, value delivery , and previous success in driving but also adopting change.
+ Solution design and architecture - apt at creating comprehensive technical design documents, including architecture and infrastructure artifacts, to support scalable, secure, and efficient data platforms , ensuring reliable data flow s from ingestion to consumption .
+ AWS cloud ecosystem - deep knowledge of AWS data and analytics services and the infrastructure required for production grade data solutions and applications .
+ Prioritisation - a daptable to changing needs within the organi s ation with a professional, flexible and pragmatic response to rapidly evolving priorities, while mitigat ing impacts.
+ Data and technology governance - knowledgeable in applying data management, data privacy and data security practices at scale to ensure platform use is compliant .

CBRE Global Workplace Solutions, leading global provider of integrated facilities and corporate real estate management, are recruiting an Engineering Supervisor to join the team located in Slough.
The successful candidate will be able to apply a risk-focused maintenance approach and operations of plant and systems in data centres/critical environments. The position of the Data Centre Engineering Supervisor is key to the technical operations of the building and its infrastructure.
As the post holder, you will be expected to have a detailed understanding of the installed building services systems, contingency procedures and be proactive in passing on this knowledge to other members of the Site Personnel. The Data Centre Engineering Supervisor will also be expected to become familiar with aspects of the administrative and engineering operations within the contract.
In general, your role will be to ensure the efficient operation of the critical and noncritical engineering services, PC based systems and the associated plant. Achieving 100% availability.
Working closely with the Engineering team, the Data Centre Engineering Supervisor role will be to act as a technical coordination point for the day-to-day maintenance activities, including the Specialist Subcontractors, Suppliers and other support teams. One of the key activities involves the role of a HV authorised person.
You will be the technical reference point for the completion of the necessary permits to ensure compliance with method statements, risk assessments, Supplier Health and Safety procedures. You will ensure that the conduct of any personnel under your control is safe, professional, and conscientious. You will be required to attend site meetings with the client.
Further to this the Engineering Supervisor will be a key player in ensuring training requirements within the Data Centre are met and engineers are either trained or in training to ensure the highest engineering standards.
The Data Centre Engineering Supervisor with Support from the Campus Technical Manager will be responsible for ensuring all technical paperwork is created and approved to a high standard, this includes but is not limited to Safety Programs, Risk Assessments, Switching Schedules.
**Key Responsibilities**

+ Responsible for Ensuring CBRE platforms utilised and maintained such as Quantum to ensure risk radar kept up to date.

As Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response. You are expected to be a singular focal point for all facility operations and to support Amazon within its owned and operated data centers.
You should be able to manage large scale impacting projects and new region support from conception to completion. These projects involve large amounts of independent work as well as collaboration with external support groups including engineering, automation, procurement, and finance in both local and global settings. As Chief Engineer, you will be tasked with creating and delivering on key milestones, obtaining and tracking quotes for all necessary costs, and documenting project results for future implementation at other facilities. The goals of such projects are for the Chief Engineers to drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs in the facilities.
Key job responsibilities
- Train and support the Engineering team in their role of providing electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operations
- Implement and execute site or equipment-specific training exercises. Exercises cover, but are not limited to: stand-by diesel generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, chillers etc.
- Oversee day-to-day operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data center sites
- Operate independently, with limited direct management
- Assist in the design and build-out of new facilities and perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
- Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the data center region. Work OT hours as needed to support site stability
- Troubleshoot and report facility and data sever-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA)
- Create and deploy standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams
- Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendors, and AWS staff
- Respond to off hour emergency calls related to his data centers and help with the investigation, mitigation, and recovery of the issue(s).
- Candidates should be able to lift up to 40 lbs and or work in elevated locations.
- Ability to work in an environment that operates 24/7 with an ability to provide after-hours support as needed. All physical requirements are expected with reasonable accommodations

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent (to be amended based on country's specifics)
- Extensive industry related experience with In-depth knowledge of UPS, backup generator systems and generic mechanical-room infrastructure
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
Preferred Qualifications
- BS7671 18th Edition
- High/Low Voltage Authorised Person (AP) experience
- Previous experience in operations and on-call support for Data Center facilities or Mission Critical Plants/Production facilities
- Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/ fibre) cabling

We are currently looking for a versatile Talent Acquisition Specialist to support with hiring across our Engineering functions. You will provide an exceptional experience by delivering world-class service to both candidates and stakeholders.
What you'll be working on
- You will partner closely with the Engineering function leaders to evaluate hiring requirements, lead the search and recommend a quality and inclusive shortlist of candidates.
- You will manage third party agency relationships ensuring that they are kept updated and that the candidates that they present are given an exceptional experience
- You will own the full cycle of the hiring process: job qualification, pro-active sourcing (direct approach via LinkedIn and emails, networking, referrals), interviewing, selection, and closing of key talent
- You will deliver a world-class, end-to-end experience for candidates and hiring managers.
- You will monitor, maintain and proactively report key recruitment metrics
- You are a well-rounded: you'll have experience partnering closely with Engineering teams, some experience of working with Core Business functions would be an advantage
- You work at pace: You will have previous experience recruiting in start-up / scale-up companies within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
