Job Description

Node.js / TypeScript Developer (Backend-Focused)

£60,000 - £90,000 | Hybrid (4 days remote) | London

We’re supporting a purpose-driven tech company operating at the intersection of data, software, and healthcare, a business using technology to drive better health outcomes on a global scale.

They’re now looking for a Node Developer (Backend) who’s excited by the opportunity to build scalable, high-performing systems that make a tangible difference.

You’ll play a key role in shaping the technology that powers their modular platform — working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver new features, improve existing systems, and accelerate the product roadmap. This is a team that values ownership, creativity, and pragmatic problem-solving (sometimes the best solution isn’t starting from scratch).

The Opportunity:

In this role, you’ll be building and optimising backend systems and APIs that underpin the platform, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality software.

You’ll have the freedom to take ownership of your projects, challenge how things are done, and use modern AI-driven tools to accelerate delivery and boost performance.

It’s a great fit for someone who enjoys autonomy, thrives in collaborative teams, and understands that building smarter doesn’t always mean building from scratch.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Solid commercial experience with Node.js and TypeScript
  • Strong understanding of API development (REST)
  • Background working with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • At least 3 years’ experience in backend software engineering
  • Previous experience within healthcare (FHIR, HL7, EHRs, or LIMS) or exposure to Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) is highly desirable
  • A proactive mindset and ability to adapt within a fast-moving environment

At MRJ, we make efforts to truly do things differently. In partnering closely with this client, you’ll get the inside track on the opportunity, the team culture, and what it takes to land the role. We’ll be with you every step of the way.

Job Description

Founded by ex-Cazoo automotive veterans, this Central London based start-up is a on a mission to revolutionise the automotive industry. They’re building an AI-first platform for operational efficiency; seeking to move the industry beyond outdated paper-based systems.

Who are they?

You’ll get the opportunity to work with some of the UK’s largest retailers and see direct impact from your code from day 1. Their founders and investors are from a network of automotive experts from huge names in the industry such as McLaren and Aston Martin.

They’ve just received a fresh round of investment so 2025 is the year for them to take their product to the next level, with AI at the forefront of their ideas here.

Currently their entire product team consists of 7 engineers, 1 product designer and 3 directors who are still hands on with design and product. They’re looking to add 2 more engineers and a product designer to this.

They work in product squads and have 3 work streams going at any one time. For the first 4 months they’ll look to get you settled in and then are happy for you to move around into different squads. They’re keen for you to get to know the whole product as much as possible so you’ll be exposed to a lot of technology.

What are they looking for?

They’re keen to talk to engineers with a passion for learning. You should have a Computer Science degree (or similar) and a minimum of 3+ years of experience in web application development. They’d like someone who is comfortable with their core stack, including Node.js, TypeScript, Vue.js, GraphQL, AWS, and serverless architecture. A solid grasp of Git and CI/CD pipelines is essential.

You'll thrive there if you're product-focused, user-centered, and enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams to build world-class user experiences.

It’s a huge bonus if you’ve worked with, or have an interest in AI as this is at the forefront of their ideas. Exposure to TDD, DynamoDB and life in a start-up/scale-up environment will also hold you in good stead.

What’s in it for me?

They’re offering up to £55K but they will flex for the right person. You’ll receive equity from day 1 as well as a high-spec Macbook and noise cancelling headphones. There are also performance driven bonuses on offer as well as 28 days holiday, plus an additional one on your birthday.

If this is of interest then drop me email on and we can discuss further.
