This role offers the opportunity to work on a interesting and challenging projects involving a range of industry leading technology stacks. The role takes place primarily during UK core business hours with participation in an on-call escalation engineering Rota required.
Requirements
- Proven experience designing and deploying a range of modern infrastructure solutions across data and cloud preferably within regulated environments (finance, energy, public sector)
- Experience working within a project team, with personal responsibility for specific technical deliverables
- Experience providing high quality design documentation (high level design / low level design / as built design / operational manuals)
- (candidates should be able to evidence their experience across a mix of at least 50% of the following technical skills to be considered)
Technical skills:
- Windows and/or Linux server environment build and administration
- Enterprise virtualization technologies such as Nutanix, VMware, and/or Hyper-V
- Design and/or implementing of public cloud infrastructure services on Azure and/or AWS
- Active Directory & Entra ID identity services deployment and administration
- Microsoft 365 Intune for endpoint management deployment and administration
- Microsoft 365 productivity services deployment (Exchange Online / SharePoint Online / Teams etc.)
- Knowledge of relevant governance standards and frameworks (Azure Well Architected Framework, NCSC Cyber Essentials, CIS Security Benchmarks etc)
- Virtual Desktop solutions (Cloud or on-premise) Other skills
- Excellent technical problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders as required
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams to deliver large or complex multidisciplinary projects Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation as part of project delivery
- All candidates should be confident in their ability to pass general security vetting procedures such as disclosure checking and a criminal history search Professional Certification
- Relevant certifications such as Azure Administrator / Architect, AWS Solutions Administrator/Architect, Microsoft Certified Professional, Nutanix Certified Administrator or similar industry recognized accreditations related to the role would be a definite plus

Our Amey Consulting Structures Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn.
Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, with the Southwest being awarded in 2020 and the Northeast in 2022. These are 8-year contracts, extendable up to 12 years. In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established contractors across the country.

The role
Our Lead Senior Engineers play an important part within the Design team and alongside our client, Transport Scotland. As a Lead Senior Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Design Team Leader on a variety of Civil schemes whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring junior designers.
Responsibilities include:
- To lead a team to product technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
- The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
- Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions
- Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables
- Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.
- Significantly contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function
- Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.
What you will bring to us:
- Developed experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent
- Able to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks
- Experienced in undertaking project related tasks associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
- Capable of acting as day-to-day main engineering contact for a project where required under the terms of the commission, e.g. Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) for Network Rail schemes
- Knowledge, understanding and experience of design and specification process with ability to advise others (Design Team Leader for appropriate projects). Can check designs to a high standard
- Highly experienced with relevant software and similar analytical tools. Good ability to check work produced by others
- Has a very good understanding of CDM and risk assessment. Substantially experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects and ensures appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied.

- Supervisory and people manager skills. Capable of managing a medium sized, locally based single discipline technical team, including the people manager role
