Seeking a Manufacturing Engineer on a contract basis in Portsmouth to help plan and design manufacturing processes in an industrial plant utilising LEAN principles.
You'll maximize efficiency by analysing the layout of production equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilisation, as well as determine parts and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals.
Must be able to generate 3D CAD models.
Role: Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Portsmouth
Basis: Contract
Hours: Mon-Fri. 37 hours per week
Hourly rate: 30-35 per hour PAYE only (Hourly rate is DOE and holiday pay will be paid in addition)
Main responsibilities:
* Review existing production Cells and implement changes to improve manpower utilisation.
* Provide support to the manufacturing Cells and drive continuous improvement.
* Provide solutions / improvements to address HSE issues.
* Provide technical / process support to Engineering Technicians.
* To ensure that all new or modified processes, equipment and materials are introduced and used in accordance with UK Health and Safety regulations and Company Procedures.
* To ensure process, equipment and ergonomic risk assessments are completed where necessary.
* To assist the Technician team in determining the correct TPM activities and schedules.
* Procure new or enhance existing equipment, through either in house modifications or third party.
Ideal candidate profile:
* 3 years+ experience in Manufacturing Engineering related support or suitable discipline.
* HNC or equivalent in an Engineering discipline, preferably in Mechanical and Production Engineering, or recognised time served apprenticeship.
* 3D CAD experience is essential.
* Six Sigma Green Belt qualification (or practical application) is desirable.
* Experience in a medium to high volume production environment will be essential, and a proven working knowledge of assembly automation including PLC's is desirable.
* Proven Experience in managing projects is essential.
* Previous experience of managing reporting staff is desirable.
* Can do attitude and a team player
* Proactive in HSE
* Fluency in English language (written & verbal) is essential

Our client is based in Farnborough whose responsibilities are to design and manufacture temperature, speed and pressure sensors for gas turbine and airframe applications. We have another smaller manufacturing site dedicated to analogue indicators, based in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire.
Looking for an experienced Manufacturing / Process Engineer with Operational and Engineering background. The Manufacturing Engineer role will support the day-to-day manufacturing and ensure that all processes function efficiently and produce repeatable results as well as continuous improvement activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accountability, ability to manage multiple streams of work and prioritise according to business needs.
- Ability to develop and optimise existing and new processes.
- Providing technical assistance to other departments in the resolution of any problems on existing products.
- Continually working to improve the manufacture of products to eliminate both rework and scrap.
- Proactive and systematic problem-solving skills to enable route cause analysis of issues.
- Working closely with production operators, process technicians and quality to determine product and process improvements.
- Must be able to design and develop tooling to enable the assemble and manufacture of products.
- Updating as required to BOM's/Routings on the Company's ERP system (LN).
- Preparing and updating new or existing manufacturing documentation.
- Creating process specifications and material purchase specifications.
- Provide justification for identified product and process improvements to enable capital expenditure.
- Generating capital authorisation requests for plant and tooling.
- Providing on-going support to the Development Technicians, Productions Operators and processes to ensure economic manufacturing to the correct build standard and process control.
- Applying knowledge and skill to assist in the introduction of new technology in order to improve quality and productivity.
- Working with the Product Engineers and other team members on project plans and performing assigned tasks.
- Contributing as required to the preparation of technical proposals to customers for further work.
- Liaising with Engineering and other Departments to produce cost estimates for new product designs.
- Identifying risks and developing strategies to mitigate them. Generate and maintain PFMEA's.
- Create and deliver presentations / toolbox talks to other employees, customers and suppliers.
Qualifications, Experience and Attributes Required:
Essential:
- Minimum 5 years proven experience in a similar role that encompasses the above responsibilities.
- Understanding and experience of lean manufacturing techniques.
- Demonstrated background of product and process improvement.
- Mechanical / Electronic knowledge.
- Communication skills (oral and written).
- Understanding of AS9100.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) intermediate level.
- Understanding of PPAP & APQP.
- Continuous Improvement Competent level.
Skills:
- HND or above in Engineering Discipline.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience, preferably 3D.
- Uses quality tools, PFMEA's, Control Plans, Six Sigma etc.
Desirable:
- Degree in mechanical/production engineering or an HNC/HND.
