In this role you will be part of the Production Manufacturing Engineering team. The Manufacturing Engineering team provide technical support to the ongoing manufacture of composite Dowty Propeller Systems and provide Technical support and solutions to the Repair and Overhaul side of the business.

**Responsibilities**

**Qualifications/Requirements**
+ Minimum NVQ Level 3 with awareness of Manufacturing Engineering within an assembly and/or composite manufacturing environment
+ Desired is HNC level 4 in a manufacturing or engineering discipline with some proven experience as Manufacturing Engineer within a manufacturing environment.

**Overview of the scheme**
Length of Program: 4 years including End Point Assessment.
The first year is 2 days per week full time at University of Western England located in Bristol. In the second year you will be at university one day per week, with the remainder spent in the workplace. Third year is similar, and the fourth year is in the workplace, with time allocated for you to complete your EPA and any other required assignments.
The successful applicant will join our successful apprentice program to learn the role of a **Manufacturing Engineer (ME)** . As a Manufacturing Engineer our role is to work between product engineering and production to translate engineering intent into manufacturable products by defining process, materials and tooling to ensure we create a seamless delivery of product, on time, and to quality, for our customers.
Keeping yourself, the ME team and the business safe and compliant in all your daily tasks.
To undertake a series of cross functional job rotations in production, quality, design, materials & processes, tool design, Non-Destructive Test to obtain a broad understanding of the success factors in becoming a successful manufacturing engineer.
Your last rotation will be inside ME where you will gain experience working on core ME tasks such as:
+ Writing and iteratively improving clear and concise manufacturing work instructions that align with technical specifications.

In addition, you'll be responsible for the daily management involved in processing Blades through MRB to ensure the daily throughput is achieved.
This role would suit an engineer with experience of composite components within the aerospace industry. Knowledge and the ability to work towards signatory for composite concessions will form part of the development plan for this opportunity.

- Receiving and Interpreting Orders: Calculate reel widths and ensure that the correct reels and packaging are available.
- Operating Slitter Machines: Load reels onto the slitters, thread the paper, and set the knife bars while making necessary adjustments. Check the setup and operate the slitter machine, looking out for any faults and promptly reporting issues to the Slitting IC.
- Managing Trim and Dust Extractor Units: Operate these units effectively and ensure samples are taken when needed.
- Coil Handling: Remove coils, mark them accordingly, and pass them for packaging while recording data accurately.
- Assisting with Reel Upending: Support in cutting centres and other related tasks.
- Maintenance and Housekeeping: Carry out minor maintenance tasks, maintain good housekeeping practises, and assist in other areas of the slitting department as required.
- Checking and Health and Safety: Ensure H&S checks are completed with reporting of defects, ensuring reels are produced and wrapped in accordance with correct instructions (TI, reel, width, set diameter)
