Copello are working with an International defence client who are seeking a motivated and skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join their dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to design, develop, implement, and optimise manufacturing processes for antennas, avionics, logic control units and associated technologies.
As a key member of the team, you will leverage your expertise to enhance design and manufacturing efficiency while ensuring the production of high-quality products. Key responsibilities
Manufacturing Support
- Provide real-time technical support to resolve production issues related to paint and test processes, including equipment failures, quality concerns, and process inefficiencies.

Qualifications and experience

Reporting to the Value Stream Supervisor, this role is responsible for providing engineering support and expertise to Value Stream to optimise process capability, efficiency, and output. What you’ll be doing
- Design & Improve: Create lean process improvements for tools, equipment, and assembly methods
- Deliver Change: Manage projects from concept to handover, keeping efficiency and timelines on track
- Validate & Test: Ensure new tooling and processes are reliable and compliant before production
- Keep it Safe: Lead PUWER assessments, risk analysis, and safety compliance
- Collaborate: Partner with R&D, training schools, and wider teams to support innovation and development
- Measure & Monitor: Define KPIs, track progress, and ensure budgets and quality targets are met
What we’re looking for
- A degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Production, or related Engineering field
- Hands-on experience in manufacturing or technical environments
- Knowledge of ISO9001/TL9000, Lean, Six Sigma, and regulated industries
- A methodical problem-solver with excellent organisational skills
- Willingness to learn systems such as SAP and sDMS

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily manufacturing operations, ensuring targets for production volume, quality, and cost are met.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to improve operational efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
- Manage the production workforce, including hiring, training, performance management, and scheduling.
- Implement and maintain Lean Manufacturing principles and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Oversee the supply chain, ensuring timely procurement of materials and effective inventory management.
- Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, monitoring expenditures and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality assurance, and maintenance departments to resolve production issues.
- Lead initiatives for process optimization and technology adoption to enhance manufacturing capabilities.
- Analyze production data to identify trends, measure performance, and drive data-informed decisions.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement among the operations team.
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 3 years in a management or supervisory role.
- Demonstrated experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong understanding of production planning, inventory control, and supply chain principles.
- Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage budgets and P&L responsibilities.
- Experience with ERP systems and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
- Knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Ability to work effectively in a demanding, hands-on environment.
