Salary: Up to 45,000
Shift Patterns: 07:00-15:30 (Earlier finish on a Friday of 12:00)
Oliver Rae is recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer to join a growing business in the heart of Birmingham City Centre. The Manufacturing Engineer (BOMs, Routes & Costings) plays a pivotal role in ensuring accurate and efficient setup of manufacturing data within the ERP system. This includes creating and maintaining part numbers, Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and product timings, as well as performing detailed costing analysis for new and existing products.
The role supports smooth product introduction, cost control, and continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain part numbers, BOMs, routings, and manufacturing timings in the ERP system.
- Define and document manufacturing methods for new and existing products.
- Work with the Engineering Team to specify tooling, fixtures, gauges and SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures) required for production.
- Implement process changes and improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Prepare costing summaries for new products, variants, and specials to support sales quotations.
- Estimate machining and manufacturing times for accurate route and cost setup, carrying out product timings where necessary.
- Analyse cost variances and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Participate in continuous improvement.
- Placing purchase orders for some equipment and capital expenditure items where required.
- Train production staff on new processes and manufacturing specifications where necessary.
Qualification/experience required
- Strong experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing data management.
- Ability to read drawings.
- Knowledge of CNC machining.
- CAD knowledge.
- HND/HNC or equivalent in Engineering or a time served engineer.
- Previous experience in manufacturing cost estimation.
