About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic QA Engineer to join one of our development teams. Reporting to the Acting Lead QA Engineer, the successful candidate will be passionate about quality and will go over and above ensuring consistent high standards are met across Immediate digital platforms and look to drive high standards for all deliveries; cultivating an environment of quality and encouraging others to consider it at all stages. 

As a QA Engineer you will;  

  • Act as an integrated member of the development team, working closely to ensure the integrity and quality of changes to the products. 
  • Take responsibility for representing QA at all team ceremonies. 
  • Act as a QA role model; understand the grasp of quality in the development team and coach them to higher levels. 
  • Ensure the execution of comprehensive functional, non-functional and regression tests. 
  • Communicate bugs early and effectively and manage issues until they are resolved. 
  • Consider and conduct exploratory testing to increase test coverage and maximise discovery of bugs and defects. 
  • Work with other QA engineers to develop standards, best practices and guidelines. 
  • Collaborate with other team members, Product Manager and Delivery Manager to help plan new functionality or major enhancements. 
  • Foster good working relationships with a diverse group of colleagues.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience of working in an agile environment.  
  • Detailed knowledge of the software development life cycle.  
  • Experience with Behaviour Driven Development, Data Driven Testing and Risk Based Analysis methodologies. 
  • Significant web and mobile testing experience, testing across a range of browsers / devices. 
  • Logging and reporting bugs in Jira (or an equivalent). 
  • Demonstrable experience with at least one JavaScript test automation tool (e.g. Cypress, Postman, Selenium-WebDriverIO) and willing to broaden your testing skill set through the latest automation tools and techniques. 
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and the importance of continuous testing. 
  • Great communication, listening and negotiating skills with colleagues. 
  • API testing experience with Postman. 
  • Keen learner, who continually wants to improve, to grow their own skills, their team’s skills and adapt to new tools and processes.

Key job responsibilities

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related field, or relevant work experience
Working knowledge of Linux system administration
Experience of systems automation using BASH, Python, Perl, etc
Experience of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP)
Good troubleshooting skills at all levels, from application to network to host
Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to cloud computing concepts and design considerations
Experience in a production environment
Experience of monitoring frameworks (such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic or similar)

SUMMARY OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

You will:

Successfully complete all identified training both in-house and external, as required.Develop system architectures, designs, and detailed specifications to meet client requirements.Integrate various subsystems and components to form a cohesive system, ensuring compatibility and performance.Execute system testing and validation activities to verify that systems meet design specifications and performance criteria.Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including requirements, design specifications, test plans and operator manuals.Analyse and translate client requirements into functional and non-functional specifications.Participate in technical discussions with the project teams and identify and resolve technical issues.Support commissioning at client sites.Support and specify procurement activities as required.Be actively involved in the manufacture, assembly and testing of bespoke systems.Suggest changes and improvements if opportunities arise.Engage in continuous learning to develop technical skills and knowledge relevant to system integration.Communicate with clients to understand their needs and ensure their satisfaction with the delivered system.Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software, hardware, workshop and project management, to ensure successful project delivery.Follow all health and safety regulations, procedures and protocols.Support the delivery of the project scope to company quality management system, process and procedures.Have base knowledge of client specific standards and international standards.Engage in quality and technical reviews.Assist with any other duties reasonably requested and in line with the requirements of the role.

SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for:

Experience and Knowledge

Minimum of 2 years’ experience with a relevant qualification or 4 years’ experience in systems engineering or equivalent role.Good understanding of systems engineering principles and methodologies.Good knowledge of Software Packages relevant to the role of a Systems Engineer i.e. SCADA packages, PLC packages and HMI packages.Familiarity and experience with system integration processes, tools and technologies.A basic understanding of industry and company quality management systems, process and procedure.
