Our client, a leading independent Oil & Gas operator, based in Norwich are currently seeking a Network Technician to join their IT Department based in Norwich.

This is a full-time, permanent role based out of Norwich.

Frequent travel to UK Operational sites including offshore assets may be required in this role, you may be called on for out-of-hours business critical events and for.

Your new role
As an Electrical Network Technician, you will be a key player in the operation, maintenance, and development of a large-scale private high-voltage distribution network. Based at a major UK port, your responsibilities will include ensuring the safe and efficient performance of electrical assets such as substations, switchgear, and critical infrastructure, including bridges and waterways.You will carry out planned maintenance, respond to faults, and support improvement projects to ensure minimal disruption to port operations. A significant part of your role will involve preparing, authorising, and executing both low and high-voltage switching operations in line with safety regulations and operational procedures.

What you'll need to succeed

• Proven experience working with high-voltage electrical systems (up to 33kV or higher).
• Strong knowledge of electrical distribution networks and safety protocols.
• Relevant electrical qualifications (e.g. NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent).
• High-voltage authorisation or the ability to obtain it quickly.
• A proactive approach to fault-finding and continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to participate in out-of-hours call-outs or standby rotas.

• Assist in the installation and configuration of network hardware and software.
• Perform routine network maintenance and updates under supervision.
• Respond to and resolve basic network incidents and service requests.
• Monitor network performance and identify potential issues.
• Assist in troubleshooting network connectivity problems.
• Learn and apply network security best practices.
• Document network configurations and troubleshooting steps.
• Participate in training sessions and work towards achieving industry-recognized certifications.
• Collaborate with team members on various network projects.
• Develop a strong understanding of IT support principles and practices.

• Install, terminate, splice, and test fiber optic cables according to industry standards and client specifications.
• Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks to identify and resolve faults promptly.
• Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on network infrastructure.
• Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to plan and execute installations.
• Operate and maintain specialized fiber optic testing equipment, such as OTDRs and optical power meters.
• Manage and maintain inventory of fiber optic components and tools.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Provide technical support and guidance to junior team members.
• Document all installation, testing, and repair activities accurately.

• Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Technician or in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of fiber optic technologies, including different cable types, connectors, and splicing techniques.
• Proficiency in using fiber optic testing equipment (OTDR, VFL, power meters).
• Experience with blown fiber systems and fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) deployments is highly advantageous.
• Ability to read and understand technical documentation.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Must possess a valid UK driving license and be comfortable traveling within the designated service area.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., FOA CFOT) are a strong plus.
