Bank Oncology Pharmacist | Southend on Sea | Bank | Monday - Thursday
Spire Wellesley Hospital is looking for a Bank Oncology Pharmacist to join our continually developing service. You will work alongside specialist Oncology nurses and consultants to build a rapport with our patients and ensure the highest level of patient care.
Work week:
Monday - Wednesday 9am - 6pm
Thursday 9am to 5.30pm, this could change depending on business needs.

The Wellesley has 3 Theatres (2 laminar flow) and an endoscopy unit, a 33 bedded Surgical Ward covering a wide variety of specialties including Orthopaedics, Bariatrics, General Surgery, Vascular, Plastics, Gynae, Ophthalmology, Spinal, Urology and ENT. We have had a recent Theatre refurbishment to further upgrade our theatre environment and bringing cutting edge technology to our hospital.
Duties and responsibilities:
In this role you will be working as part of a close knit specialist oncology and haematology team who ensure a highly personalised service to our patients.
- Liaise with specialist nursing staff to ensure appropriate patient workload daily. li>Utilise your planning skills to ensure all chemotherapy medications are ordered and received ready for treatment.
- Pre-assessing patients, reviewing test results and assessing their safety to proceed to treatment.
- Reviewing and releasing medications at discharge
- Follow up calls with patients to review side effects and ensure they have all the support they need.
Who we're looking for:
- As the Oncology Pharmacist you will be confident in your ability to work autonomously and continue to develop the service.
- GPHC registered.
- Experience within Oncology Pharmacy is essential.
- Current dispensing and screening experience.
- 2 years post registration experience in Oncology desired.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of Harbour Healthcare’s quality team and wider system care home quality support team, under the supervision and direction of the director of care quality, driving evidence based and safe usage of medicines across the group.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Complete medications management audits within Harbour Healthcare to identify issues and provide assurance of effective systems. li>Work with care homes and system partners to develop and propose possible solutions to address medicines management concerns. li>To review all aspects of implementation of medicine management in the home, from ordering, storage, administration, recording and disposal, ensuring it complies with local and national standards.
- Liaise with health professionals in secondary care on interface medicines management issues. li>Liaise with primary care professionals to support the resolution of medicine management issues when required. li>Ensure administration of medicines and disposal of medicinal waste, follows appropriate legislation and health and safety policies. li>Develop strategies and promote ways to minimise the level of medicines wastage in Care Homes. li>Contribute to the development of guidelines and policies for use in Care Homes where these do not exist. li>Maintain appropriate records, to support Medicines Management Services / ICB reporting systems e.g., relating to activity, outcomes, efficacy, and financial savings. li>Be aware of the wider issues within the NHS which will impact on the Medicines Management agenda. li>Provide education sessions for Care Home staff on medicines management including supporting induction programmes for care home managers and staff if applicable. li>Take responsibility for identifying personal and professional development needs to support the needs of the service, career progression and the requirements of the professional body for continued registration.
- Provide written reports to the board and care home managers where required.
