Job Description

permanent

Creating breakthroughs for a world where every autistic person can thrive.

Autistica is the UK’s leading autism research and campaigning charity. Our vision is a world where every autistic person has the opportunity to live the life they choose — a world built on science, collaboration and compassion.

Right now, autistic people face too many inequalities. Many wait years for a diagnosis and find little or no appropriate support. They experience barriers in education and employment, poorer physical and mental health, and face inaccessible environments and negative attitudes.

We are changing this. Through world-class research, policy influence and practical innovation, we are creating breakthroughs that improve understanding and deliver lasting change. By 2030, our six ambitious goals will ensure autistic people receive proven support from day one, have access to effective treatments for anxiety, tailored annual health checks, inclusive environments, changed attitudes, and better employment opportunities.

As our next Chief Executive, you will lead Autistica into its next chapter of growth and impact. You will unite researchers, policymakers, funders, autistic people and families to drive discovery, influence change and turn evidence into action.

We are seeking an outstanding leader who brings strategic vision, curiosity and clarity of purpose. You will be:

  • A compelling storyteller able to translate complex science and research into narratives that inspire action and engagement.

  • An empathetic leader, skilled in bringing together diverse teams and partners, fostering collaboration and inclusivity across a neurodiverse workforce.

  • Numerate, strategic and relationship-driven, able to balance vision with operational and financial acumen.

  • A confident advocate and influencer, able to engage donors, policymakers and the public with authenticity and authority.

  • A leader who may not come from the autism field but who has the humility and openness to learn, build trusted relationships and strengthen Autistica’s standing within the sector.

To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter, detailing how you fulfil the role description and personal specification to  quoting reference 8127. The deadline for applications is 23:59 GMT Sunday 9th November.

The role is based in London, and the Salary range is £80-£90.000.

Perrett Laver will conduct an executive search process in parallel with the public advertisement of the role. Longlisted candidates will be invited to interview with Perrett Laver in November, and the Selection Panel will subsequently meet to decide upon a final shortlist for the post in mid-December, following which, interviews with Autistica will take place in early January.

If you require any reasonable adjustments to assist you in the selection process, please advise us of these so that we can make appropriate arrangements.

Join us in shaping a future where understanding leads to action, and where every autistic person can thrive.
