Key Responsibilities
As a process operator , your main duties will include:
- Preparing plant and equipment for the safe introduction of process materials and achieving process specifications by starting up the plant and adjusting operating conditions.
- Strictly following all company safety, health, and environmental procedures.
- Monitoring, maintaining, and adjusting process parameters to ensure optimal operation.
- Sampling, testing, and confirming the quality of process streams and finished products.
- Completing required documentation and ensuring proper handling, packaging, labelling, storage, and receipt of all raw materials and finished goods.
- Safely shut down plant and equipment during process stoppages, making sure everything is left in a safe condition.
- As the process operator , you will be required to take part in training programmes and supporting the development of other team members.
What We're Looking For
To succeed as a process operator , you should have:
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above.
- Prior experience in an industrial or process manufacturing environment.
- Good communication, listening, and teamwork skills and the ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Process Operations and Counterbalance Fork Lift Truck licence is desirable.

The Process Operator will be responsible for monitoring and carrying out routine operations ensuring maximum efficiency of plant and assisting the shift supervisor with daily reporting.
As the Process Operator you will be responsible for:
- Monitoring and operating a gas storage plant via SCADA
- Routine chemical testing, inventory management and completing plant reports
- Liaise with the engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to ensure maximum availability of plant by fault finding and updating the CMMS
- Following Health and Safety procedures to ensure the safety of yourself and colleagues

Adecco is pleased to be partnering with our client in Workington to recruit a permanent Process Operator. Our client is a leading global chemical manufacturing company, renowned for innovation and excellence in their field.
This is a full-time, permanent position working 39 hours per week, following an attractive shift pattern that includes both 12-hour day and night shifts.
Example Shift Pattern includes:
4 on, 5 off, 5 on, 4 off, 5 on, 12 off this will include some weekends.
Purpose of the role
To control, monitor and adjust equipment and processes to meet production targets. To report and investigate deviations from normal operating conditions, dealing with basic process upsets.
Technical:
- Prepare to start up, start up, monitor and maintain, handover and complete / shutdown a process
- Maintain product quality
- Prepare process materials according to instructions
- Manage materials into and between production stages
- Separate and dispose of by-products and waste as appropriate
- Clean and prepare items of plant and equipment
- Prepare work areas for maintenance
- Maintain the condition of engineering assets report equipment and materials defects to supervision.
- To carry out analytical testing to ensure product integrity as and when required
- Complete all documentation to the required standard
- Maintain area housekeeping and 5S status
Compliance:
- To understand the Major Accident Prevention Policy / Plan (MAPP) and Safety and Environment Management Systems.
- To comply with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and arrangements.
- Where applicable, to inspect before use, and use correctly, the plant equipment, machinery and personal protective equipment provided, and take corrective action within your competency level and report to line management any defects identified.

- Not to use any new equipment or carry out any modification or change of process or system of work, without first ensuring that adequate assessment and authorisation has been carried out through the Management of Change procedure.
- Where appropriate, to only undertake work for which you have been appropriately trained.
- In the event of an abnormal situation or emergency, to carry out the necessary actions to ensure your own safety and that of others, in accordance with the site Emergency
- Procedures, and to be available to be part of the Emergency Response Team in line with your training, specialist skills and Departmental expertise.

- Participate in Process Hazard Assessments studies (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP and LOPA studies)
- Participate in risk assessments and incident root cause investigations

- Active participation in continuous improvement and other lean manufacturing initiatives

Our client, based in Houghton Le Spring, iscurrently undergoing significant investment to increase capacity and install world leading environmental controls. As a result, they are currently recruiting Process Operators to join the team, working in various locations within the facility.
Duties & responsibilities:
- Must be safety focussed, demonstrate good safety behaviours and be comfortable to raise safety concerns should they arise.
- Experience of working with chemicals and COSHH would be an advantage. Must be comfortable wearing PPE including a full face mask when required (no facial hair permitted).
- Required to operate various critical processes including i) impregnation and drying plant, ii) thermal processing equipment and iii) onsite effluent treatment facility.
- Required to perform in line testing on manufactured product and quality assurance checks.
- Perform routine maintenance and housekeeping on production equipment and within production areas.
- Running Machines and working from specifications.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years demonstrable manufacturing experience as a process operator.
- GCSE English and Maths or equivalent NVQ.
- Forklift license would be desirable but not essential as training will be given.
