We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Laboratory Manager to join our Global Performance Materials Engineering team. This role is pivotal in managing the qualification of Heat Shrink Products on an annual basis, while also supporting a variety of initiatives including OEM testing, application validation, automotive compliance, NPI (New Product Introduction) projects, and sustaining activities.
As a strategic and hands-on leader, you will be responsible for setting and maintaining high laboratory standards, managing cross-functional collaboration, and driving improvements in efficiency, quality, and compliance. This is an exciting grow working in a dynamic and inclusive global work environment with a real chance to shape and improve laboratory standards in a high impact role.
**Your main tasks:**
+ Lead the qualification of Heat Shrink Products annually, ensuring full compliance with internal and external standards.
+ Support testing for OEM, application development, automotive requirements, and NPI/sustaining projects.
+ Communicate effectively with both local and global Performance Materials (PFM) teams, and report directly to the Functional Leader, Laboratories.
+ Work cross-functionally with departments including Global Laboratories, Sustaining Product Engineering, Innovation/NPI, Operations, Application Engineering, Project Management, and Marketing to align on business strategy and testing priorities.
+ Build and lead a high-performing laboratory team through strong leadership, talent development, coaching, and empowerment.
+ Define and document corporate and local laboratory standards for equipment, processes, methodologies, and training programs.
+ Identify, propose, and implement new technologies and tools that enhance efficiency, reduce lead times, and improve test repeatability.
+ Analyze test data, generate reports, and identify trends and opportunities for continuous improvement and process rationalization.
+ Maintain communication with external certified test facilities, automotive partners, and internal stakeholders.
+ Generate and deliver monthly laboratory performance reports aligned with strategic goals; develop and execute corrective actions as needed.
+ Collaborate closely with NPI and Sustaining teams to implement new testing methodologies.
+ Develop and maintain comprehensive standard work procedures, risk assessments, COSHH documentation, and all required documentation to meet global and internal compliance standards.
+ Engage with local plant and engineering teams to ensure integration and alignment of lab operations with manufacturing processes.
**Your ideal background**
+ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
+ Minimum 5-8 years of experience in laboratory operations, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership or management role.
+ Strong technical knowledge of heat shrink materials, automotive standards, and testing protocols.
+ Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.
+ Experience in data analysis and reporting, with a continuous improvement mindset.
+ Familiarity with quality systems, risk assessments, and health & safety standards (e.g., COSHH).
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a global, multicultural environment.

- Experience of working within a high-volume manufacturing environment, ideally automotive
- Advantageous to be experienced in prototype/product testing and benchmarking, project and budgetary management, IP, contract review, product liability/warranty processes, and VA/VE, Lean, and Kaizen tools.

As head of engineering over the Commercial Connectivity value stream you will be responsible for architecting, developing, and managing key enablers for the business's success. This includes Commercial Desktop, a new platform which integrates with Salesforce to support internal workflows across Ratings' Commercial and Finance teams, as well as a suite of shared business service and content distribution channels. Your work will enable internal teams to improve operational processes and is accountable for distribution of Ratings content to external platforms such as Ratings Website, Ratings360, RatingsDirect, and RatingsXpress.
You will engage with stakeholders across Ratings' Commercial and Finance functions. You'll work closely with stakeholders across S&P Global divisions and will establish a close working relationship with counterparts within the corporate technology team to align and support corporate and cross-divisional initiatives.
You will manage a global staff of software engineers across value streams and partner with your Product Management and Quality peers to support agile scrum teams across the globe.

**Qualifications:**
+ Experience:
+ 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5+ years in a senior leadership role and managing software teams.
+ Proven track record of leading and scaling engineering teams in a product-focused environment
+ Extensive experience in software development lifecycle management, from product conception through deployment and iteration
+ Experience in managing large-scale, complex product development efforts and ensuring cross-functional team alignment
+ Technical Skills:
+ Strong technical background with hands-on experience in modern software development technologies (e.g., Java, Python, microservices, cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, etc.)
+ Expertise in software architecture, data architecture, and system design, with an ability to lead and influence technical decision-making.
+ Drive innovation toward building high-scalable, real-time data pipelines and data distribution solutions
+ Experience with enterprise integration patterns, including event-driven architectures and messaging systems
