We are currently recruiting for a Principal Engineer to work in our busy Engineering Department in Kepak in Merthyr Tydfil.
This is a full time, permanent position working 5.00am to 5.00pm - 4 days on/4 days off. You will also be responsible for 24hr 7 days per week phone support / out of hours calls (salary reflects this commitment). The salary is between £50,000 to £60,000 per annum depending on experience.
Job Description:
To be the CPM (Retail Packaging) Engineering specialist within a team of Multiskilled Engineers and Managers.
You will work, day’s, ensuring that you train and optimise the Shift Engineering teams with a long-term personal drive to progressing upwards into a management role.
The Role is to take the newly restructured team to a high performing level, with accountability, ownership and quality being the core values.
Additionally, you will be instrumental in driving the resolution to the Top 5 breakdowns, closing out reoccurring failures in maintenance and issues causing operations to fall behind on hourly pack rates.
You will be expected to work tenaciously within a team of Multiskilled Engineers in a fast paced and high performing environment.
Using your wealth of knowledge from retail packing environments, provide a quick response and resolution to issues that cause down time and risks to operations such as plan attainment and losses costs (Give-away, Pack-rate, Wastage)
Taking a proactive approach and utilising a CI methodology - you will drive forward the availability of all the CPM / Retail equipment and plan to maintain rather than repair – additionally, you must have a sound knowledge of automation, experience of preventative maintenance and ideally be from a Food/FMCG environment.
You will be expected to fault find both mechanically and electrically with proven skills overlapping both areas – You will possess strong analytical skills with the ability to break down and solve complex problems in a logical and structured manner.

§ Manage the day-to-day engineering related issues and ensure any assistance from OEM’s is escalated / progressed.
§ Ensure CPM Maintenance SLA’s (OEM Maintenance contracts) are managed, and service records are uploaded to the CMMS – Complete follow-on jobs and dispute warranty claims. KPI for SLA’s “right first and on time” is set @ 100% - service reports logged is also set @ 100%.
§ Pack rate improvement, ensuring there is a consistent increase week on week targeted at 5%
§ Take complete ownership of closing out RCA reports with a plus 10-year fix resolution.
§ To undertake emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient way on all CPM production equipment.
§ To assist in the installation of new equipment to the site and stand firm on quality issues complete with owned resolutions.
