We are currently working with a client based in Lydney, who are looking for a skilled reliability engineer to develop and lead a planned, preventative and predictive maintenance strategy and support function. This will be to enable our client’s production to perform at or better than budgeted operation availability.
You will be expected to establish robust reliability improvement programs, audit effectiveness and adherence to schedules planned preventative and condition based maintenance plans and identify areas for improvement.
You will ensure early signs of equipment failure are identified, communicated and equipment failure modes are effectively managed, with corrective intervention acted upon in a timely manner to minimise and prevent unplanned technical downtime.
Role Responsibilities – Reliability Engineer
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules to meet statutory, quality, and engineering standards.
- Establish and maintain engineering and maintenance best practices.
- Manage SAP maintenance system and master data, ensuring accuracy, optimized PM tasks, spare part identification, and alignment with OEM documentation.
- Lead predictive maintenance programs (e.g. vibration, thermography, oil analysis) to improve asset reliability.
- Train and coach the maintenance team on reliability tools and techniques; plan for skills development and delegation.
- Schedule and oversee preventive maintenance, including supervision of contractors when required.
- Lead failure reduction initiatives (e.g. FMEA), report on asset health, and recommend corrective actions.
- Enforce safety standards and process safety protocols, including Management of Change.
- Advise production and engineering teams on reliability and equipment issues.
- Propose and implement maintenance improvements to enhance plant reliability.
- Oversee key service contracts (lubrication, compressed air, steam, sprinklers) and ensure contractor compliance with safety and job requirements.
- Monitor KPIs, address deviations, and drive continuous improvement.
An ideal candidate for the Reliability Engineer role would have:
- Sound knowledge of mechanical and electrical preventative engineering principles with a comprehensive understanding of condition-based plant monitoring systems
- Candidates should possess a formal technical qualification in Engineering i.e. NVQ Level 3 / C&G Level 3 Electrical or mechanical equivalent.
- General knowledge of industrial plant and process equipment is essential
- A good working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and the application of continuous process environment.
- Strong drive, motivation and commitment
- Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize lead and manage others to deliver results.
- Good analytical skills and the ability to assimilate, organise and analyse pertinent information for logic-based problem solving.
- Ability to meet deadlines.

What you'll be doing
As Reliability Improvement Engineer you will lead the site equipment reliability improvement strategy by identifying and managing current and future asset reliability risks by developing relevant improvement plans and driving the completion of effective maintenance activities.
- Manage the equipment criticality assessment of the asset footprint in terms of business risk (HSE, food safety, productivity loss etc.) to prioritise areas for improvement
- Provide data analysis for repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations to inform the development of structured, visible corrective action plans
- Facilitate reliability workshops to define / review the preventive maintenance (PM) plan systematically and periodically for all assets to ensure all relevant colleagues understand PM plans and standard operating procedures and incorporate them into their daily activities
- Analyse the life-cycle cost of maintaining the asset portfolio versus the cost of repair and create an appropriate plan to prioritise efforts

What we're looking for

- Experience and knowledge of reliability performance indicators, OEE, MTBF, MTTR, failures rates etc.

- Experience or knowledge of Vibration Analysis
- Experience or knowledge of condition monitoring hardware and software
- A Mechanical Engineering qualification (level 3 upwards) is highly regarded
- Flexibility to work away and travel as per business and customer requirements
- Full UK driving license
